Kay West Obituary

Sadly, we announce the passing of Kay Allison (Shaw) West at the age of 76. Kay was born on May 20, 1949, in Jackson, Michigan, and passed away due to natural causes on June 7, 2025. She was born the daughter of Alson and Maureen Shaw and graduated from Westen High School. Although she retired from the State of Michigan Secretary of State, Kay was an active lady who always loved challenge. She also worked as a birthing coach, clown, school bus driver, school cafeteria worker, and an office manager at Stockbridge Manufacturing. Kay also spent time as a farm hand, waitress, the White Sands Missile Base, and many more. Always supporting her endeavors and by her side was her husband, Edwin Lowell West, who she married in January 1969. She loved Nascar racing, tending her plants and flowers, crafting, camping, crocheting, playing music, and making bird houses and crosses with Lake Superior stones. She especially loved spending time with her family and friends. Kay will be remembered as being a loving woman who considered everyone to be family and made sure they were all taken care of.
Kay is preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Edwin Lowell West. Kay is preceded in death by her parents, Alson and Maureen Shaw; sister, Joyce Sayles; and siblings-in-law: Myrtle Muraf, James West, and Bethel and Tommy. She is survived by her children, Dwayne West (Valerie Lundy) and Amanda (Corrie) Barkema; grandchildren: Christian West, Cierra Smalley, Kay Thornburg (Brittney), Samantha Lundy, Nick (Taylor) Barnett, and Christopher Lott; great-grandchildren, Wyatt and Ava; as well as many adopted children and grandchildren � too many to mention!; sisters, Pat Wollet and Shirley Sayles; and siblings-in-law, Brenda Strouss and Pete Muraf.
Services honoring Kay's life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, June 13, 2025, at Onondaga Community Church with Pastor Bill Muller officiating. Visitation will begin at 12:00 p.m. prior to the service and a luncheon will immediately follow the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be directed to the Onondaga Food Pantry, PO Box 23, Onondaga, MI 49264. Arrangements entrusted to Vickers Leslie Funeral Home, 109 N. Dwayne and Amanda: my condolences on the passing of your mother. I am not in town so, sadly, I missed the service. A Great Woman. I have nothing but positive, warm thoughts of the time we worked together at Stockbridge. I loved Kay. God Bless and God speed Kay.
