MATTOON - Leona Lynn Aubin, age 54, of Mattoon, Ill., passed away Saturday, June 28, 2025, at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center in Mattoon, Ill.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, July 7, 2025, at Mitchell-Jerdan Funeral Home, 1200 Wabash Avenue, Mattoon, IL 61938. Mike Erwin will officiate. The visitation will be held from 12 p.m., until the time of service at the funeral home.
Leona was born on December 20, 1970, in Mattoon, Ill., to David M. and Linda L. Lauter (Pennington). She was married to Mark L. Hunter on October 28, 1989, in Mattoon, Ill. Together they share one daughter, Amber. She later married Keith G. Aubin on January 26, 2012, in Mattoon, Ill.; he survives and resides in Mattoon. Other survivors include her daughter, Amber F. Winans and husband, Jon-Michael, of Mattoon, Ill.; two stepchildren, Amanda Aubin and fiancé, Tim Ryan, of Orlando, Fla., Adam Aubin and wife, Kelsey, of Orlando, Fla.; two grandchildren, Mark L. and Ava-Lynn R. Winans, of Mattoon, Ill.; two step-grandchildren, Sophia and Alec Ryan, of Orlando, Fla.; her father, David Lauter, of Charleston, Ill.; her mother, Linda Dalrymple and husband, Harold, of Toledo, Ill.; two brothers, Douglas M. Lauter and wife, Tina, of Mattoon, Ill., David M. Lauter and wife, Donna, of Portland, Tenn.; one sister, Deondra A. Cottrill and significant other, Tawni, of Kansas, Ill.; step-brother, David W. Dalrymple, of Casey, Ill.; step-sisters, Debra L. Dalrymple, of Toledo, Ill., Janele N. Haga and husband, Brad, of Casey, Ill.
Leona was employed at Lucy's Place in Mattoon and previously worked many years as a receiving clerk at Ampad. She had an immense amount of talent when it came to crocheting, so that she could fill a house with her works of art. Leona enjoyed doing crosswords, puzzles, and cooking. She liked motorcycle rides, all music and movies.
Leona was a loving daughter, mother, Nana, sister and wife. She liked to keep people on their toes with her witty comments and mischievous behavior. She will be remembered for her dancing, teasing, and rambunctious ways. Leona was one-of-a-kind who will be lovingly remembered and sorely missed.
