He was the founding member of the Assurance Quartet who traveled from Tennessee to New York praising the Lord through southern gospel music. His love for the game of basketball led him to coach Hunter, Valley Forge, Unaka, and Cloudland youth clubs. In his retirement, he enjoyed driving the bus for Carter County Schools. He was also the youth pastor at First Freewill Baptist Church of Elizabethton. He was proud to serve as a Carter County Commissioner for the Roan Mountain-Tiger Valley District. He was a member and trustee of Milligan Freewill Baptist Church.

He was a great husband, father, and papaw who loved his family very much. He was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Sadie Grace, father and mother-in-law, DJ and Phyllis Townsend, maternal grandfather and grandmother, Jess and Gladys Clark, and paternal grandfather and grandmother Dont and Blanchie Street. Parents Paris and Rebecca Street. Brothers Paris Street Jr (Susan) and Mark Street (Kathy). Brother and Sister-in-law, Kelly and Teresa Crain. Nieces Ashlee Krutick (Greg) and Sarah Street. Nephew, Cameron Crain (Morgan). Great nephew, Easton Street-Reeves. Great nieces, Paris Jewell Krutick and Kinsley Crain. And several beloved aunts and cousins.

His hobbies included spinning big tails of ghost stories and bigfoot hunting to children of all ages. He enjoyed riding around his farm on his side-by-side and tractor. He enjoyed chauffeuring his granddaughters to all their sporting activities.

A Service to Celebrate the life of Joel will be conducted at 7 p.m. Saturday, March 1, 2025 in the Milligan Freewill Baptist Church with Pastor Mark Street officiating. Graveside Service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 2, 2025 in Happy Valley Memorial Park. Music will be conducted by Kendria McNeese, Daughter and Makenzie Street, Granddaughter. He was always so welcoming and nice to my sister and I. His love for children and family poured out of him when he was around them. Listening to him sing and play the piano was one of my most fond memories of him. I know heaven is sweeter with him there and he has a band of angels around singing with him as he plays.
