Susan Rubin
Susan (Wice, Ratches) Rubin, age 73, of Halfmoon, NY formerly of Manchester, CT passed away January 12, 2025. Born in Hartford, on August 11, 1951, she was the daughter of the late Marshall "Maish" Wice and Florence "Funny" (White) Wice. She leaves behind her brothers Brian Wice of Houston, TX and Steven Wice of Fort Lauderdale. She also leaves behind her children Andrew Ratches (Cristina), Jessica Harrison (Patrick), Ashley Aziz (Kevin), Shawn Ratches (Deanna) and Natalie Creem Feld who was loved as a daughter. Her priceless legacy were her precious grandchildren Weston and Walker Ratches, Maddie Faye Harrison and Jackson, Hudson and Mason Aziz.
Susan grew up in Hartford, CT and attended Rawson School and was a 1969 graduate from Weaver High School. A major accomplishment was in May 2000 (at 50 years old) when she received her bachelor's degree in general studies from the University of Connecticut at the Gampel Pavilion. Susan lived a full life until she was diagnosed in 2015 with neuroendocrine cancer. Volunteering was her passion. She was a DCF licensed foster parent for 17 years, commissioner of Manchester Interfaith Basket League for 15 years, a volunteer at Hartford Healthcare for the NODA (No One Dies Alone) program and in the Adult and Pediatric Covid Vaccination clinics. She was infamous as the B.I.N.G.O caller at the Manchester Senior Center.
Her faith was an integral part of her adult life. She was a member of the original Temple Beth Sholom Synagogue which eventually merged with B'Nai Israel. She held several positions on the Board of Directors and loved helping with Saturday morning Shabbat services. Her favorite synagogue event was every May chairing Mitzvah Day (good deed day) with the help of dozens of enthusiastic members to run a carnival for DCF children in group homes.
She felt blessed and grateful for every day that she was given and for the love and support from her family and friends. She never took that for granted.
The funeral will be held on Thursday, January 16th at 12:00 p.m. with Rabbi Richard Plavin officiating at Beth Sholom B'Nai Israel, 400 East Middle Turnpike, Manchester, CT. Burial to follow at East Cemetery Memorial Park at 48 Autumn Street, Manchester, CT. Immediately following burial, a meal of condolence will be held at Beth Sholom B'Nai Israel. There will be no Shiva.
