William Mrkvicka Obituary

William Mrkvicka

November 3, 1935 - January 31, 2025

William F. Mrkvicka, age 89, of Fountain City, Wis., passed away on Friday, January 31, 2025, in Rochester, Minn.

He was born on November 3, 1935, in Racine, Wis., to William J. and Helen (Sims) Mrkvicka, and graduated from Racine High School in 1955. He attended technical college in Madison, Wis., to become a pressman, and later attended Riverland Technical College in Rochester, Minn., for Horticulture.

Bill was married to Ellen Bates for 26 years, and they later divorced.

Bill was a 55 plus year member of the Masonic Lodge #75 of Columbus, Wis., where he became a Master Mason, and he was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star in St. Charles, Minn.

He was employed as a pressman with Hal Leonard Publishing in Winona for 20 years and took great pride in developing his own lawncare business which reflected his love and care for plants. Bill enjoyed visiting different lawncare centers, and he was a silent member of the Hosta Club and Garden Club in Rochester.

Bill will be remembered for his love of collecting and hunting for antiques and treasures, his keen sense of humor and fun, and how he was always quick to help his family with home projects and repairs when needed.

His greatest joy in life was his family, and he was proud to share his birthday with his great-grandson, Caiden, and his great-great-grandson, Jude.

Bill is lovingly survived by his beloved long-time significant other, Jean Wiersgalla, Rochester, Minn.; children, Cynthia (Greg) Low, Austin, Minn., Kathryn Mrkvicka, Winona, and Daniel Mrkvicka, Winona; grandchildren, Zachary Rupprecht, Fountain City, Wis., Daniel M. (Ashley) Mrkvicka, Winona; great-grandchildren, Hunter Holst, Austin, Minn., Kaylee Mrkvicka and Caiden Mrkvicka, Winona; great-great-grandson, Jude Holst, Austin, Minn.; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Frances Rosquist; and brother, Robert Mrkvicka.

Services are being planned for this spring and will be announced later.
