Lawrence Cavin Obituary

Lawrence "Larry" Cavin

August 29, 1938 - January 18, 2025

Lenexa, Kansas - Lawrence Michael "Larry" Cavin, born on August 29, 1938, in Los Angeles, California, passed away peacefully on January 18, 2025 in Overland Park, Kansas. Larry lived a life rich in experience and love, touching the hearts of everyone he encountered.

After graduating from Alhambra High School California, Larry pursued further education at Graceland University, Yale University, New Haven University, and Kansas State University, demonstrating a commitment to intellectual growth. This dedication would serve him well throughout his remarkable career as the chief regulator for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, a role he fulfilled for 31 years before retiring in 2002.

Larry was an outgoing and active man who embraced life with open arms. His passion for travel was evident; he took many cruises with his beloved husband Bobby, creating memories that they treasured together. In his community, he dedicated numerous years as a docent at the Kansas City Zoo, led the Boy Scouts for over 18 years, and volunteering for the Nature Conservatory. He was also a sachem in the Tribe of Mic-o-say, where he made significant contributions to youth development and conservation efforts.

A true enthusiast of history, Larry was passionately involved in ancestry research, often becoming the "go-to" person for family members eager to trace their roots. He was a man of many talents, had a green thumb and took immense joy in flower gardening. Larry Cavin will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Larry is survived by his husband of 26 years, Robert "Bobby" Wilson; son, Chris Cavin, grandchildren Quinn and Maddie Cavin, and ex-wife Carol Cavin.

His legacy will be honored at Speaks Suburban Chapel in Independence, Missouri. Visitation will be held on January 22, 2025, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, followed by a memorial service on February 4, 2025, starting at 2:00 PM. That afternoon, an inurnment will take place at Mound Grove Cemetery at 3:30 PM, where family and friends will gather to celebrate his remarkable life.
