Daniel Dwiggins

August 31, 1927 - June 28, 2025

Daniel W. Dwiggins, age 97 of Kearney, formerly Gibbon, passed away peacefully on June 28, 2025, at Wel-Life in Kearney. A memorial service will be held August 4, 2025 at 10:30 a.m., at the Gibbon Valley View Golf Course north of Gibbon. Memorials are suggested to the Gibbon Heritage Center. Dan was born in Gibbon, Nebraska, on August 31, 1927, the youngest of three children born to David and Iva (Smith) Dwiggins. He graduated from Gibbon High School in 1945. After serving in the U.S. Navy, he and Catherine "Kae" Diers were married in 1947. They enjoyed 66 happy years together until Kae's passing in 2014. Dan was a longtime farmer/rancher north of Gibbon, and a passionate gardener. He especially enjoyed gardening and spending days in his later years with his dear friend, Joy Livingston. He served on the school board, REA board, Central Nebraska Cooperative board, and was a member of the Gibbon American Legion and the Methodist church.

Dan is preceded in death by his parents; and wife; brother David, Jr.; and sister Bee Mercer; his daughter Deborah Foster; and grandson Nicholas Foster.

Survivors include his son, David (Janet) Dwiggins of Gibbon; grandchildren Sonie (Paul) Rathbun of Colorado Springs, Colo., Travis Foster, Mike (Rebecca) Dwiggins of Washougal, Wash., and Olivia (Ryan) Rockwell of Columbia, S.C.; and five great-grandchildren.
