Roland Schelhaas Obituary

Obituary of Roland Schelhaas Mitchell – Roland Schelhaas, 97, formerly of Corsica, went to his heavenly home Friday, July 4, 2025 at Edgewood Memory Care. Memorial service will be Thursday, July 17 at 10:30 am at Christian Reformed Church in Corsica. Arrangements by Koehn Bros. Funeral Home in Armour. Roland Schelhaas was born September 6, 1927 to John and Eva (Lightenberg) Schelhaas on the farm near Corsica, SD. He attended country school through the 8th grade near the farm. He entered the United States Army on January 9, 1946 at the age of 18 and proudly served his country until being honorably discharged on April 23, 1947 at which time he returned to the farm. He was united in marriage to Jessie Sterk on September 1, 1955. The couple made their home on the farm where they also raised cattle and hogs. Roland was a member of the American Legion, a lifelong member of the Christian Reformed Church, and enjoyed hunting elk, fishing, photography and reading, especially western books. He is survived by his 6 children: Lew (Rhonda) Schelhaas and their granddaughters, Shaylyn and Sydney of Stickney, SD; Jolene (Alan) Schuldt of Stickney; Delten (Anita) and their children, Lee and Ben Schelhaas of Centenial, CO; Verlin (Deb) Schelhaas of Angola, IN; Kenten Schelhaas of Corsica; and Byron (Tera) and their children, Mya and Kallen Schelhaas of Corsica; and 2 sisters: Ruth (Donn) Rubingh of Cincinatti, OH, and Sylvia Wormmeester of Grand Rapids, MI. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Jessie; a son, Lance; and 5 sisters: Marie Kok, Darlene Shoemaker, Betty Bultsma, Eunice Pfeiffer, and Ramona Schelhaas.
