Joyce Brewster Obituary

Joyce Anne Brewster

February 14, 1943 - February 1, 2025

Joyce Anne Brewster, 81, native of Wythe County, gracefully passed away on January 31st, surrounded by her loving family. A true spitfire, she blazed her own trail through life, leaving behind a legacy of courage, determination, and unconditional love.

Joyce looked for a life outside of the traditional box. From her early days tearing up the track at Wythe Raceway as a fearless racecar driver earning respect on an off the track as one of the few women bold enough to take on the sport to breaking barriers as Wythe County's first female deputy, where her skills as a sharpshooter set her apart and earned her a reputation for excellence and precision. Joyce was never one to back down from a challenge. She paved the way for women in law enforcement, proving that courage and determination knows no gender.

In her younger years, she could often be found on the softball field, her competitive nature shining through with every pitch and swing. Off the field, she expressed her creativity and precision as an accomplished seamstress, crafting everything from beautiful garments to cherished keepsakes for her family.

Beyond her remarkable accomplishments, it was her love and dedications to others that truly defined her. She was the devoted wife of Paul Brewster, her partner of 65 incredible years. Together, they built a life filled with adventure and cherished memories. Her family was her pride and joy, surviving are husband, Paul Lee Brewster; and her two sons, Stephen Brewster and Todd Brewster (Jill); her beloved granddaughter, Meagan DiYorio (Gabe); and her two precious great grandchildren, Hayden Ellis DiYorio and Maren Kate DiYorio; and numerous nieces and nephews who adored her fiery spirit and wonderful stories.

Joyce lived on her own terms, with grit, grace and an undeniable spark. Whether stitching love into every seam, sharing laughter at family gatherings, or standing up for what she was right, she lived a life filled with passion and purpose. Her legacy of strength, love, and fearlessness will continue to inspire all who knew her. She will be deeply missed but forever loved and remembered by all who had the honor of knowing her.

A celebration of her remarkable life will be held on Friday February 7th at Grubb Funeral home. The family will receive visitation from 12-2 p.m. with the service held directly after. The family invites all who knew and loved her to join in remembering and celebrating the incredible woman she was. Expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.grubbfuneralhome.com.
