ANGOLA - Mary Lou Whiting, 74, of Angola, Indiana, passed away peacefully at home in the arms of her loving husband.
Mary was born on Aug. 19, 1950, in Chicago, Illinois, to William and Catherine E. (Faulkner) Collesel.
She graduated from Amelia High School, Amelia, Ohio, in 1968, and earned her Registered Nurse degree from Christ School of Nursing in 1971.
Mary went on to serve her country as a Lieutenant in the United States Air Force, stationed at Nellis Air Force Base in Las Vegas, Nevada.
On Feb. 14, 1975, she married the love of her life, Kraig P. Whiting. Together they built a life rooted in love and laughter.
Mary began her nursing career at Botsford Hospital in Farmington Hills, Michigan, and paused her professional work to care for her family full time. When the family moved to Angola, Mary was active in the community, serving in many roles - most memorably as the Park Nurse and Gift Shop Manager at Fun Spot Amusement Park.
Mary had a gift for connecting with others. She never forgot a face or story and made those around her feel seen and cared for. She was kind, loving and gentle. She took pride in caring for her family, patients and customers. Mary loved animals - especially her rescue dogs and the birds that frequented her backyard feeders. She learned to play the accordion as a young child and continued to play throughout her life. Mary found joy in reading, listening to music, organizing and most importantly spending time with her family.
Surviving is her loving husband of 50 years, Kraig P. Whiting, of Angola, Indiana; three beloved children, Jessica N. (James Draeger) Whiting, of Castro Valley, California, Ian A. (Sean) Mirk-Whiting, of Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, and Rebecca M. (Andrew Heroy) Whiting, of Chicago, Illinois; precious grandchildren, Ashley and Riley; her brother, Christopher G. (Amy) Collesel, of Cincinnati, Ohio; mother-in-law, Jacqueline R. Whiting, of Livonia, Michigan; and sister-in-law, Donna L. Whiting, of Birmingham, Alabama.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
