Marlene Canterbury Obituary

Marlene Sue Canterbury 72, of St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Sunday, January 26, 2025 in St. Joseph. She was born December 17, 1952 in St. Joseph, daughter of the late Minnie and Robert Symington. She married Lloyd "Alex" Canterbury on August 18, 1981, and the rest is history. She was a homemaker first and foremost, she was always putting others first and taking them in. She also worked as a truck driver and bartender. Marlene was a bowling pro, she was even a member of a bowling league, WIBC. She loved being outside gardening and camping, was big into crafts and dancing was the love of her life. She was also an ordained Minister, and took pride in marrying multiple of her grandchildren and friends. Marlene also gambled at the casino, it was one of her favorite pastimes.
Marlene was preceded in death by her parents, twin sister, Margie Boatwright, sisters, Dorothy Lee Bradley, Virginia Scroggins, Gloria Jean Shaver, and Betty Jo Liu, and brother, Larry Symington. Survivors include husband, Lloyd "Alex" Canterbury of the home, her best friend, Buddy, daughters, Ann Hughs of St. Joseph, MO, Misty (Vernon) Jones of Atchison, KS, and Rolanda (Frank) Fuemmeler of St. Joseph, MO, son, Charles "Chuck" (Miranda) Dunlap of Maryville, MO, sister, Jonna (Rick) Clark, 15 grandkids, 22 great-grandkids, and numerous nieces, nephews, and others.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM on Friday, January 31, 2025 at Rupp Funeral Home. Funeral services: 11:00 am, Saturday, Keys Christian Fellowship, Pastor Richard Bradley officiating. Memorials are requested to the American Cancer Center or American Heart Association.
