Kenneth Hassler Obituary

Mass of Christian Burial for Mr. Kenneth Hassler age 78 of West Point formerly of Dodge, NE will be on Wednesday, July 9, 2025 at 10:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church-Olean, rural Dodge, NE. Interment with Military Honors will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery with a luncheon to follow at St. Wenceslaus Social Hall in Dodge, NE. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church-Olean, with a Vigil Service at 7:00 p.m., and will continue on Wednesday one hour prior to the service. Minnick Funeral Home in West Point is handling the arrangements for the family. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the Sacred Heart Cemetery Fund-Olean or to the family for future designation in Ken's name. Ken passed away on Friday, July 4, 2025 at his home surrounded by family. Kenneth Leo Hassler was born on January 17, 1947 at West Point, NE to Leo and Frances (Renner) Hassler. He attended Sacred Heart Academy and graduated from Dodge High School in 1965. He enlisted in 1964 in the U.S. Navy and began serving after he graduated until he was honorably discharged in 1967. Ken proudly served on the USS Kitty Hawk during the Vietnam War. He returned to the family farm and finished out his time in the Naval Reserves. On August 2, 1980, he was united in marriage to Marilyn Hoops at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Dodge, NE. He continued farming and also worked at the Dodge Dairy, West Point Dairy and also helped area farmers. He and Marilyn moved to West Point five years ago. Ken was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church-Olean, serving on the Men's Circles and was a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters. He was a member of American Legion Post #122 and VFW Post #8597 of Dodge. In his younger years he enjoyed bowling, loved gardening and being outside taking care of the yard. Ken was always finding ways to transform items on the farm and enjoyed listening to polka music. He loved attending the grandchildren's activities and rooting on the Huskers. Survivors include- Wife-Marilyn Hassler of West Point, NE Daughter-Lynn and Will Blocker of Broken Bow, OK and children- Kyson, Clayton and Wyatt Son-Bruce Hassler of West Point, NE Daughter-Bonnie and Brian Nebuda of Fremont, NE and children- Luke, John and Rebecca Son-Matthew and Meagan Hassler of Woodbine, IA and children- Matthias, Levi, and Hezekiah Siblings- Mary Ellen and Dennis Mostek of Beemer, NE Vernelle Ernesti of Beemer, NE Dan and Linda Hassler of North Bend, NE Several brother's in-law, sister's in-law, nieces and nephews also survive him. Ken was preceded in death by his parents, brother-Duane Hassler, and his parent's in-law-Lloyd and Effie Hoops.

Ken's laugh was endearing and contagious. He worked with my dad for while; dad loved working with him. He served as pall bearer for my mom too.
although his health challenges in the past has meant we have not seen him but all the cousins remember him with joy and fun!
