Dale Bond Obituary

Dale Harnit Bond, 86, Charles City, IA, passed away on Thursday, July 31, 2025, in Cedar Rapids, with his family. Memorial services will be held at the Hauser Weishaar Funeral Home in Charles City on Saturday, September 6, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. with a luncheon following at the Elks Lodge. Dale was born on January 29, 1939, in Bottineau, North Dakota. Son of Roger and Dorothy (Harnit) Bond. Dale went to the W. Roby Allen School for the Deaf in Fairibault, Minnesota. His father wanted him to have as "normal" of a life as he possibly could being deaf. He did research and reached out to many people to find the BEST school for Dale to go to. At the age of 2 Dale went to the private deaf school to learn how to read lips and speak, he lived and went to school there until he graduated high school. Dale's sister was also born deaf and went to the same school, so they had each other. Dale learned many more things at the W. Roby Allen school than just lip reading and speaking, he learned to make the most beautiful Christmas and Easter decorations, he made many lifetime friends there, also. It was an amazing place with many amazing people and teachers. Dale then went to Jamestown College in Jamestown, North Dakota, there he studied biology, microbiology, and virology, graduating with a BS degree. He married Helen Barbara (Pank) on February 1, 1969, they met at a dance and Helen says he was a great dancer, so she asked him to dance and that was the start of their story, they were lovingly married for 56 years. They adopted two children, Paul and Jenny, and gave them a loving home and were the best parents any child could ever ask for. Dale was employed as a microbiologist at Salsbury Animal Health/Solvay, in Charles City making animal vaccinations for 35 years. Dale was a member of Lions Club, Elks Lodge, he volunteered at the Floyd County Museum, he was an avid coin collector and enjoyed collecting and sharing with his grandsons, and he loved to travel, he and Helen went many places around the world together. Dale's happy place was always at the lake, may it be growing up at Lake Metigoshi, North Dakota, or at Lake Okoboji. He always said "I-Luv-a-the Lake!" He was a water skier, scuba diver, golfer, fisherman, and spending time with his best lake friends at the cabin. His family was the most important thing to him, he always took care of each and everyone of us, no matter what, he was there supporting everything and every idea. Dale always had a smile and a handshake for each and everyone of his wonderful friends, and every person he met, he loved spending time with his friends and was just an amazing person.
