Gary Nelson Obituary

August 13, 1940 - June 11, 2025 Gary Wendell Nelson, 84, passed away tragically on June 11, 2025 in Los Angeles. Born in 1940 in Summerfield, Kansas he lived 62 of his 84 years in California. Gary is survived by his daughter Jennifer and her partner Immanuel; his late sister Joyce Whitmore's children (Kenny and Beverly); extended family members including those of his late wife Connie (Christopher and Millie).
Professionally accomplished, Gary co-founded one of Southern California's leading Mortgage banking firms -Churchill Mortgage Corporation- and was known for his integrity and professionalism earning wide respect across the industry.
Beyond his career contributions, he was an active member in his community – giving his time and experience to Hancock Park Homeowners Association, The First Presbyterian Church of Hollywood, Lambda Alpha International, and others.
Gary was an understanding and loving father, husband and friend. He will be remembered not just for his accomplishments, but for his faith, warmth, kindness, and the quiet strength he brought to every room. He is deeply missed.
Services will be held Saturday, August 16th, at 11:30 a.m. at Hollywood Presbyterian Church (1760 North Gower Street) with a gathering to follow.
