PHILIP KOERIN Obituary

PHILIP KOERIN 06/09/1949 - 07/15/2025 Philip "Phil" Alan Koerin, 76, of Leavenworth died Tuesday, July 15, 2025, at home. He was born June 9, 1949, in Norfolk, Va., the son of Michael M. and Edna (Goldman) Koerin. Phil initially pursued a path in speech and drama with aspirations of becoming a professional actor. He later redirected his trajectory toward a fusion of instructional technology, the medical field and service to the U.S. Army, where he contributed to the development of impactful training programs. Phil was a world traveler, an advocate, and a passionate bargain hunter. He married Constance Ann Hiller on May 4, 1996, at Ft. Leavenworth, Kan. Connie and Phil walked many miles together on volksmarches, which is how they first met. They discovered many shared interests over time including travel, good food and good company. Phil was a kind and generous man who showed genuine interest in the lives and wellbeing of others. He loved Connie dearly and cared for her throughout her cancer illness. He supported his nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews with cards celebrating their achievements, watching them play sports via live stream, or entertaining them with stories of his adventures. He enjoyed living in and volunteering around Leavenworth investing his time in the CASA program and the local Democratic Party. Phil especially appreciated his healthcare providers and getting to know local business owners. He was known to drop off a jar of his homemade black bean salsa or a dish of whatever new recipe he was trying out. Phil was preceded in death by his wife, Connie; his parents; and his niece, Pamela Stroud. He is survived by his brothers, Sidney (Beverly) Koerin of Richmond, Va., and Bernard Koerin of Virginia Beach, Va.; sister, Shirlyn Hunroe of Chesapeake, Va.; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and extended family. Visitation was from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Friday, July 25, 2025, at R.L. Leintz Funeral Home. The graveside service and burial will be Saturday, August 2, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. at Presentation (Marietta) Parish cemetery near Bellwood, Neb., with a luncheon to follow.

I meet Mr Koerin when he came to community America Cu. After talking a while we realized we worked at CGSC on Ft Lv. We knew we had seen each other but until then couldn“t remember where. He and Ms Connie were always so kind and so in Love. He talked about her constantly and brought in his book for me to read about their lives together. He would order Pizza for us at work and sit and talk for a while. We would talks about politics and just shake our heads. Mr Koerin , you will be Greatly missed for your conversations and kindness. I am sorry I missed his service, I found out about his passing today. You are home now with the Love of your life. Rest In Peace my friend. Judy Handy

Phil was quite a character with a wonderful sense of humor. Enjoyed spending time with him at work and at the casinos after we retired. R.I.P.
