Alan´s love for his industry, combined with his passionate 'think-big' attitude, was something that could not be contained. He was the kind of person that you wanted in your corner, as nothing would faze him. He was continually curious about making a difference for people in our industry, and that curiosity is instilled in the team he has today. When you approach almost 30 years of working with someone, it goes beyond work. We saw each other´s kids grow up, and we both dealt with family loss, health issues, and everything in between. He was a caring man, and until this moment, I just realized that I lost a confidant in life. Alan, generally cared about you and your loved ones, and it was an honor to know him. Thinking big and thinking of you, you are truly missed.

I was so sorry to hear about Alan´s passing. My condolences to Lauren and the whole family. I first met Alan about 40 years ago at the Kenwood Golf and Country Club, where I was the Head Tennis Professional. Alan, as a member of he club and I spent many hours on the courts hitting balls and talking about life, family, tennis and work. His smile and positive spirit was always a lift to the people he came into contact with. I was privileged to call him my friend. I had the pleasure of knowing his wife Lauren and one of his sons, Ben and see them on a regular basis. What a kind, gental and thoughtful man he was and I will forever be grateful for knowing him and his family. Rest in peace, my friend.

Maybe legend or pioneer words get thrown around a lot, but he really was both. I remember meeting him at a Boston conference years ago. He had a genuine interest in me and my business story. Made me feel like an important part of ASCII Group. That conversation has stuck with me years later. May his memory be a blessing.

Alan was a pillar of our community and a pioneer. Even after 40 years, advocated for the small independent Technology Provider and kept moving our industry forward.

On top of that Alan was a great friend to all of us and he will sorely be missed. May God enlighten his soul and comfort Lauren, her family and the greater technology community.

I will forever be grateful that Alan created an organization that allowed me and my fellow IT business owners to create long-lasting relationships, share stories, and support each other. For those of that have created something from nothing, it can be a lonely road. But it doesn't have to be. In the early 2000's I was on such a road and wondered if there was a way to connect with my peers. I found the ASCII group and that has been the source of dozens of connections and resources that have empowered me to grow my business, support my family, and serve my community, employees (and their families), and vendors better. Alan has a hand in all of it. I had the good fortune to meet Alan in person several times over the years, and he was always gracious, generous, and curious about how he could better serve our community. He was one of the good guys and we'll sorely miss him. Please accept my deepest condolences for your loss. - Zach Mesel, Santa Rosa, California.

The world is a sadder place without Alan in it. I met him years ago and we were fast friends and often had long conversations each time we met. His ideas were always large and far-reaching. Our conversations mostly revolved around the IT Community and ASCII, but he had passion for other things in life, too.

Passion. If I had to choose one word to describe Alan, it would be Passion. He lived his life with a deep passion for everything he did.

I will miss him dearly. He was an inspiration to us all. Sending love and hugs to his family and all who loved him. May fond memories comfort you as you honor his life well-lived.

I have only been an ASCII member for 7 years, but the value it has added to my business is huge. I did not know Alan well, but do know his creation, ASCII, very well. The value it added to my business never would have happened if Alan had not started ASCII over 40 years ago and ran it for over 40 years. ASCII is much larger than any one person can run, but Alan was amazing at bringing in great talent to grow his vision into what it is today.

My condolences to his family and friends. While we will all miss Alan, his legacy goes on with ASCII. Alan has brought in the right people to ensure ASCII will live on for a very long time.

This is sad news for our community but I'm sure Alan will continue to live on free from the detriments of the illness he suffered. I am personally grateful to Alan for his efforts around ASCII, an organization that has been such a benefit to my business, and to my well-being - I consider fellow members as good friends. ASCII features the highest caliber of people - both in its membership and the team that runs it, and it all ties back to Alan, who we will always remember as the GOAT! R.I.P. Sir, I salute you.

To express Alan in a single phrase, "there was no small talk, only big."

During the first conversation I ever had with Alan he became aware of my philosophy degree and interest in ethics, and henceforth wanted to speak of nothing but Maimonides and Hammurabi that entire evening.

Though best known for his IT community and his tennis prowess, there was much more to him. Creating and growing The ASCII Group was Alan´s towering achievement, but he was interested in larger things.

I am already feeling his loss and will for the rest of my life.

Alan's passion for the industry was contagious. It didn't matter if you saw him once per year at a show or numerous times a year, he always greeted you like you were his best friend, asked how things were with your family, and asked if you needed any help in your business. Alan is a true IT Superhero and will be missed dearly!

I will miss seeing Alan at the shows. He was always very engaging and easy to talk to. And he was a sincerely nice guy who love the IT community. I first got involved in ASCII because I saw Alan taking on the likes of Microsoft and Lenovo over unfair policies toward smaller partners. One of the reasons ASCII is so focused on helping their members get what they need from vendors is because of the tone he set.

Alan was a true icon for our industry and I'm glad I got to know him.

Though I only had the opportunity to work directly with Alan for a year, his encouragement, support, and genuine kindness made a lasting impact. I always felt truly "seen" by him-a rare and meaningful thing. He took joy in hearing about my children and never missed a chance to offer a kind or encouraging word around all of their many endeavors. I´ll always remember his infectious laugh, his energy at our St. Pete event celebrating his 40-year legacy with ASCII (he ROCKED his track suit and had a blast with the team!), and his constant drive to move ASCII forward. He was deeply respected in the channel and within our team, and he will be truly missed. Thanks for everything, Alan.
