Alice McHenry Obituary

The family of Alice Maxine Grayson McHenry is saddened to announce her passing at the age of 93 years. Maxine died at her home in Gitano, Mississippi, surrounded by her family.

Maxine was born in Gitano, Mississippi on November 21st, 1931. She lived through the Great Depression and the Second World War. She saw the first man walk on the moon, the introduction of color televisions, the advent of the computer age, and the development of cell phones.

Maxine worked for Baker Petrolite for 30 years. Most mornings, she arrived at work at 6:30 a.m. and did not leave until 5:00 p.m. Once home, she would spend the remaining daylight hours working in her yard. She retired in 2014.

She was a lifelong member of Gitano United Methodist Church. Maxine's father, Davis Grayson, helped to found the church, and she was a faithful supporter of the church even after she could no longer attend services.

Maxine lived in Wiesbaden, Germany for three years in the early 1960s with her husband and children. She traveled extensively throughout Europe and toured many landmark historical sites in Germany, Austria, and Belgium. She and her husband also traveled across the United States, visiting the National Parks and much of the Western U.S.

Maxine was known by her family and friends for her dry wit and prompt insights. She could always be depended on to have the quickest, most straight-forward solution to any problem. She lived in her own home unassisted into her 90s. She was a loving grandmother and was adored by her grandchildren and her great-granddaughter.

Maxine is proceeded in death by her husband, John McHenry, and her parents, Davis and Mary Grayson. She is survived by her son, Dr. David McHenry and his wife Christy McHenry, her daughter Diane McHenry Pimperl and her husband Dr. Cameron Pimperl, and her seven grandchildren, John Pimperl, Maia Pimperl, Hallie Pimperl, Hughes McHenry, William McHenry, Harry McHenry, and Christopher McHenry, as well as her great-granddaughter and namesake Evelyn Alice Pimperl.
