Frederick W. Berliner

1943-2025

Frederick William Berliner, loving husband and father, died at his home in Ancram, NY on April 25, 2025 of heart failure following a long and courageous battle with Amyloidosis. He was 81 years old.

Born in Queens, NY on August 26, 1943 to Herbert and Rosa Berliner, Fred grew up in Woodmere, NY with a zest for life that would define him throughout his life.

Fred's trading career started early as his father refused to pay for his college education as he was having way too much fun and failing most of his courses. He started out at Trotsker Singer and worked with several different trading companies trading stocks and witticisms.

The pinnacle of Fred's trading career was starting the electronic stock market in Moscow, Russia in the mid-nineties. As part of a US AID program he was instrumental in establishing the Russian Nasdaq exchange in Moscow and was actually called the "father of the Russian stock market". After the successful roll-out of the Russian stock market he took a job with Troika Dialog running the trading desk and training a brand new generation of stock traders.

In 1981 Fred married Lauranne Lydia Gray (Lori) and they had two daughters, Hannah and Lydia. Fred and Lori shared a passion for collecting art, traveling and entertaining their friends and acquaintances. Fred especially loved road trips so he could show off his driving skills. It was considered a win when he wasn't pulled over for speeding! He also loved sexy cars, golf and poker.

Fred had a remarkable gift for friendship maintaining lifelong bonds with friends from every chapter of his life. His energy, self-confidence and irrepressible sense of humor made him loved by all who knew him.

Fred was predeceased by his beloved daughter Lydia and his identical twin brother Christopher Berliner. He is survived by his wife Lori, daughter Hannah and three grandchildren, Aurora, Luke and Eddie. He is survived by his elder sisters Janet Erickson and Sally Lewis and her husband Burt Lewis as well as their children Kathy Lewis-Fink, Richard Lewis and John Lewis. He also leaves behind a wide circle of relatives, friends and colleagues.

A memorial service will be held at a future date.
