James “Wimpy” Leonard Wimsatt, 106, passed away Friday, February 14, 2025 at Chatauqua Health Care in Owensboro. He was born in Ohio County, Kentucky to the late Thomas and Iva Lanham Wimsatt.

 Mr. Wimsatt was a World War II Veteran of the Army Air Corp (U.S. Air Force). He attained the rank of staff sergeant and was awarded 4 Bronze Battle Stars.

 Leonard retired from General Electric after 25 years of service. His work for them included a move to Florida, where he lived for 20 years. He and his wife were active and longtime members of First Christian Church. 

 Mr. Wimsatt thoroughly enjoyed painting and drawing. His gallery was mostly comprised of work that allowed him to relieve stress and build up Kentucky. 

 He was preceded in death by his wife of 77 years, Gertrude "Trudy" Wimsatt in 2022 and siblings, Lora, Haven, Cecil, Earnest, Marteen, Elizabeth, Eugene, Beatrice, Pauline, Imogene and Josephine. 

 Mr. Wimsatt is survived by a sister, Frances Ingersoll, and many generations of nieces and nephews.

 The funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM Tuesday, February 25th at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Visitation will be Monday, February 24th from 4:00 until 7:00 PM and Tuesday from 9:00 AM until the time of service. Burial will be at Owensboro Memorial Gardens.

 Memorial contributions may be made to First Christian Church, 700 J R Miller Blvd, Owensboro, KY 42303.

 The family would like to offer a heartfelt thank you to Mr. Wimsatt’s caregivers and the staff at Chatauqua Health, for their excellent care and concern.
