Joan Mount Obituary

Bingham Farms - Joan Frances Mount, of Bingham Farms, Michigan, passed away peacefully on May 6, 2025, at the age of 92.

Born on August 18, 1932, in Trenton, New Jersey, Joan was the daughter of Garnett Q. and Madeline (Burton) Schell. In 1949, she met the love of her life, Bertram Ulysses Mount, in Westwood, New Jersey. They were married on June 25,1955, at St. Andrew's Church in Westwood and shared 63 wonderful years together before Bertram's passing in 2018.

Joan earned her degree in Early Childhood Education from Mills College in New York and began her teaching career at Ira W. Travell School in Ridgewood, New Jersey. Her deep love for children and learning carried through a lifelong dedication to education and community, with impactful work in New Jersey, New York, and Michigan.

A woman of many passions, Joan was an avid gardener and tennis player who especially cherished family vacations to Ocean Beach, New Jersey. She found joy in reading and cooking, but her greatest happiness came from time spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. True to the values they lived by, Joan and Bert opened their home to international students, providing them with a safe and welcoming place to stay while they pursued their education. A devoted friend and active community member, she was known for her warmth, thoughtfulness, and the enduring connections she nurtured throughout her life. She and Bertram were longtime parishioners of St. Regis Catholic Church in Birmingham, MI, and later of St. Owen Catholic Church in Bloomfield Hills, MI.

Joan is lovingly remembered by her daughters, Jennifer Bombardi-Mount (Ronald) and Jody Vorenberg; her adored grandchildren, Matthew, Robin, Molly, Melissa, Rachael, Madeline, Abby, Clay, Claire, and Quinn; and her treasured great-grandchildren, Elijah, Henry, Miles, Noah, Rook, Jack, and Rinn. She is also survived by her brother-in-law, Steven Frantz, and many nieces and nephews whom she held dear.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Bertram; her daughter, Corinne Foster; her son, David Mount; her sisters, Mary Augsbach and Ellen Frantz; her sister-in-law, Edythe Wulff; her brother-in-law, Richard Augsbach; and her nephew, Richard Augsbach Jr.

Memorial services will be held at later dates in both Westwood, NJ and Bingham Farms, MI.
