Mr. M was my teacher in middle school. He was so funny and kind and spoke to us like adults with life lessons that I think about more often than I ever thought I would. He was also very upset to find out no one had ever taught the nerds basic geography throughout the years when he gave us a pop quiz to have real grades in the books and we all failed. He was irate! He inspired me to apply for the Air Force Academy and when I was there, emailed back and forth with me when times were hard. I wish I still had that email because he wrote with such kindness and humor. He told me the military collects idiots like silver spoons, something that was extra relevant at a place full of so much privilege that I never knew and something that I told my soldiers when I was in a position to mentor later. He did more parenting of me than my own dad while sounding so much like him - the Irish side of my family lives on Long Island and is chock full of FDNY and teachers. I looked for him here and there but always thought I would have more time. I'm so grateful to have known him. I'm so sorry for your loss.

I´m so sorry for your loss. Mark was always present at the baseball games, never in the bleachers but along the fence line where we couldn´t hear him. LOL. That New York accent was louder than he probably realized & so we heard some stuff. He will definitely be watching over his family & his love for you all was very obvious, may he rest in peace.
