Peter Tuff Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 30, 2025.
Peter E. Tuff was born on January 10, 1934, in Utah to Edwin and Katherine Tuff. He passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus on June 26, 2025, in Eden Prairie, Minnesota.

Peter was the son of ranchers and was raised in Granby, Colorado, alongside his three brothers. He grew up with a strong work ethic and a love for the majestic Rocky Mountains and the outdoors, excelling in ski jumping as a young man. After being drafted into the U.S. Army, he was stationed in New York, where he met the love of his life, Agatha. They married in 1956 and began their family in New York.

In 1969, Peter's career with R.J. Reynolds brought the family to Westlake, Ohio. There, he became an active member of the community, serving for many years on the Westlake City Council. In 1977, Peter and Agatha relocated to Minnesota, where he continued his work with R.J. Reynolds and made the state his home.

Peter was a man of quiet strength, deep love, and unwavering integrity. He was known for his tender heart-often moved to tears during a simple dinner prayer-and for his playful, lighthearted spirit, especially with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His faith in Christ was central to his life; In his pocket with his loose change, he carried a small cross each day as a humble reminder of Jesus's sacrifice. Peter's devotion to his beloved Agatha was evident to all, especially in the final years of her life, when his care and tenderness spoke volumes of his enduring love.

Peter leaves behind a lasting legacy in the lives of his five children: Peter Tuff, Katherine Girthofer (Florian), Diane Shaw (Fred), Barbara Rengel (Paul), and Paul Tuff (Carin); 15 grandchildren: Christina Saull (Bradley), Tyler Shaw (Melinda), Erin Ball (Drury), Callie Payne (Tim), Anne Tuff, Megan Ruiz (Matthew), Karl Girthofer III, Kayla Hagerty (Connor), William Tuff, Karina Rengel, Breanna Layman (Daniel), Emma Anderson (Aaron), Evan Rengel, Isabella Girthofer, and Miles Rengel; and 12 great-grandchildren: Violet, Annie, August, James, William, Charlie, Jamison, Calvin, Xavier, Ruthie, Jordan, and Riley.

A private service will be held at Fort Snelling National Cemetery, where Peter will be laid to rest beside his beloved wife, Agatha.
