Terry Hazelwood Obituary

Terry George Hazelwood

A much-loved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, son and brother, Terry Hazelwood, 74, of West Chester, Ohio, passed away peacefully at his home January 19th, 2025 with his family present.

Terry was born in Pocahontas, Arkansas to George and Gladys Hazelwood, who raised him and his siblings in Lakewood, California where he then raised his own family. He attended Lakewood High School and enjoyed coaching baseball and then went on to join the Navy. Although Terry was a Jack of all trades, he made a career at Proctor and Gamble that led him and his family to move across the country to West Chester, Ohio.

Terry is survived by his wife of 55 years, Leslie "Chris" Hazelwood; daughters Christy Barr (Alan Barr) and Deana Schmidt (Kevin Schmidt); granddaughters Megan Mink (Matt Mink), Tracie Tipton (Jake Tipton), and Myranda Schmidt; step grandson Sean Barr; great-grandchildren Brooklyn, Mackenzie, and Tony Mink, Blakely, Madison, and Luke Tipton; siblings Donna Roberts (Ray Roberts, deceased), Cathy Smalling (James Smalling), and Tim Hazelwood (Kelli Hazelwood); nieces and nephews Matt Roberts (Maria Roberts), Kim Fischer (Nick Fischer), Lisa Smalling (Roosevelt Washington), Jaime Smalling, Bryan Smalling (Scarlett), Michael Hazelwood (Shaina Hazelwood), and Melissa Bredenkamp (Kyle Bredenkamp), and many grand nieces and nephews. Terry is preceded in death by his parents George and Gladys Hazelwood, and brother-in-law Ray Roberts.

Terry and his beloved wife Chris, fell in love in 1969. Terry was the perfect gentleman he always brought flowers to Chris, and all of his girls in the family, for every occasion. He always went above for Chris, even went as far as renting a private plane to take her to dinner in San Franscisco before her high school prom. Terry and Chris loved to travel around the world and together they enjoyed many cruises.

Terry's life revolved around family, he was the best father and grandfather. Growing up Christy and Deana enjoyed camping trips and surprise visits to Disneyland with their parents. Terry was a kind and loving father who provided for his family in every way. As a grandfather he was very involved in the lives of his granddaughters, never missing a game, taking the girls on camping trips, and even taking Megan and Tracie to the father daughter dance. Terry was a great role model for everyone in his family and always cherished time with his family.

Everyone who knew Terry knew how much he loved to golf. Terry had a great group of golf buddies that became lifelong friends. He enjoyed golfing with his friends as often as possible, no matter the weather, and their yearly golf trip to Myrtle Beach was always something he looked forward to.

Terry will always be remembered as the great man that he was and the way that he cared for others. A Celebration of Life will be held on February 8th, 2025 from 1pm to 5pm at Christy and Alan's home (6348 Carriage Oak Way, Liberty Township, Ohio 45011.) In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Joe Nuxhall Foundation in remembrance of Terry's love of baseball.

To Chris & Family,

Terry was my "daily coach" when I first started working at P&G and I just went down to our old offices in the Basement ("ON28") of the Historic Wing of Ivorydale Technical Center to reminisce about him and our work there... he did amazing work there, yet somehow made it look "easy", which of course it really wasn't !

He holds a special place in our hearts and minds and will always be remembered as a gentle and kind friend.

To Terrys loved ones, I never had the pleasure of meeting Terry in person, but he was a member/player in our "P&G" Survivor game. During the season we would all place "points" on the contestant we thought would get voted off and whomever had the most points at the end of the season, would "win" a Buff (like the players wear on the show) provided by me, the "commissioner" of the game. Each week, J. Michael Watters would collect the votes and send them out to the group. Throughout the season we would all share banter each week on the outcome of the show. I (we) will TRULY miss Terry this season, but I´m sure he´s looking on watching, while maybe even wearing the 2 Buffs that he won during his tenure in the game R.I.P. Terry, you will be sorely missed My sincerest condolence's to you all.

Terry was a good man, a good friend, and an avid golfing buddy. He will be missed more than he could have ever imagined. Rest in peace Terry in God's loving hands.

Lisa and I were privileged to know Terry and the family well. I will never forget having him and the family over to watch UFC´s or our trip to Gatlinburg. Terry was always so kind and gracious and always made you feel welcome. The world was a better place because of him. You are already missed by so many, Terry.
