Thomas Felvey Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 20, 2025.

Felvey, Thomas McQuade "Tom", Sr., 81, of Richmond, VA, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, January 5, 2025. He is survived by his wife, Joan Davis Felvey; sons Thomas McQuade Felvey Jr. (Jeannette), his sons Thomas and Gregory Felvey; William Talmadge Felvey, his children, Sam and Cate Felvey (and their mother Laura); his daughter, Sara Anne Felvey, and her son Casey Jones (Heather). He was preceded in death by his sister Marijane Felvey Marks of Greenwich, CT.

Thomas was born April 18, 1943, in Richmond, VA, and raised by his beloved aunt, May Rose Felvey. He graduated from John Marshall High School, and obtained his degree in Biology from Richmond Professional Institute (now known as Virginia Commonwealth University) in 1967. Following his graduation, Thomas started his career in state government with the State Water Control Board, which later became the Department of Environmental Quality. He was most proud that he spent much of his 40 year career protecting Virginia's water resources against pollution. Thomas passed his love of the outdoors and the water to his children. This included many trips to the Shenandoah Valley to fish for smallmouth bass on the North Folk of the Shenandoah River and several other streams off the beaten path. Above all, Thomas was always available for his family; he coached many of his children's sports teams, and enjoyed watching his daughter compete in horse shows. In his later years, he enjoyed being with his grandchildren and he took great pride in his garden.

Thomas was a true lover of life and he will be greatly missed.

There will be a celebration of life and details of this will be announced soon.

Tommy was my friend at RPI and I was impressed with his humor and charm. I never saw him once we graduated and I moved. I´m sad to hear of his passing but glad he had such a full life and joyful life with a large family. Rest in peace

I only have lived in the neighborhood about 7 months, but Tom has been an ever-present inspiration on how to navigate this crazy world. Always a kind or helpful word. My husband and I have said we hope to "grow up" to be Tom and Joan. We´ll miss him. Tom, we´ll try to be a great neighbor like you showed us!

Tom was a part of the neighborhood routine. You could always count on him to walk his faithful companion(s) on a regular schedule every day. Tom always greeted neighbors with a smile. I still expect to see him come around the corner with his best friend.

Tom was the best neighbor! He always looked out for me, keeping an eye on house and yard, helping with grass and leaves. He had the best yard on the block and always had all plant related answers. I miss seeing him piddling in his yard, walking by with Roxy and waving with a friendly smile.

Tom was the heart of our Bellevue neighborhood.. he walked our streets with his beloved dog, Roxy, multiple times every day. He also had the best lawn - and backyard garden. I can´t imagine Spring season without him.
