Tommy Shuttlesworth Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Dec. 4 to Dec. 5, 2023.
Tommy Lew Shuttlesworth, 82, of Wake Village, Texas, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on Friday, December 1, 2023. He was born in Troup on December 3, 1940, to J.L. "Buck" and Cecil Fleniken-Shuttlesworth.

He graduated from Troup High School in 1959 and Tyler Jr. College in 1961. In 1961, he married the love of his life, Brenda Thomspon, of Jacksonville, Texas. On September 3, 2023, they celebrated 62 years of a blessed marriage.

He spent his youth working for Shaw's Piggly Wiggly with a dream of owning the store some day; his dream came true in the late 1970s into the 1980s. Tommy had a varied career working for Grocery Supply in Sulphur Springs, held a Borden Milk route in Granbury, and multiple management positions for various grocery store chains throughout East Texas. Tommy was a great car fanatic. He owned and restored multiple classics throughout his lifetime. He had a great sense of humor; with his quick wit, he always had a sarcastic rebuttal handy and story to go along with it.

He was preceded in death by his parents, infant daughter, Penny Lynn, and granddaughter Ricki Marie.

He is survived by his loving wife, his four children and spouses, Susan (Kenny), Sandra (Travis), Jason (Diane), Tommy "Charlie", three granddaughters, Jessica, Kaitlynn, Rebecca, one great granddaughter Rylee, his two siblings, J.L. "Jake" Shuttlesworth and Lynn Riggs, and two brothers-in-law Randy Thompson (Betty), Duane Turner, and one sister-in-law Nell Buchanan (Jim) and numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Family and friends are invited to attend services. Services will be held at Cottle Funeral Home in Troup, Texas, Tuesday, December 5, 2023. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m., Marc Sharp will be officiating the services at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be at Union Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to Texas Baptist Children's Home in memory of Ricki Marie Johnston.
