WAPAKONETA -- Valgene L. Phillips, 90, of Wapakoneta, passed away at 9:28 a.m., Wednesday, May 22, 2024 at The Springs of Lima.
He was born on February 20, 1934 in Shinbone, OH to William "Leslie" and Adelia (Stoll) Phillips who preceded him in death. On March 11, 1967 he married Janet Rable and she survives.
Survivors include 8 children Russell (Beth) Eber, Melinda Schneider, Vickie (Rick) Sawmiller, Dennis Phillips, Charlotte (Brian) Schnippel, Scott Phillips, Stephanie (Josh) Bishop, Todd (Holly) Phillips; grandchildren and great Grandchildren; Sarah (Larry Jr.) Broughton and Caleb, Riley, Carter, Colten, Madison & Luke; Joshua (Lindsay) Eber and Cadence, Brian, Karen & Rori; Amanda (Trevor) Wenning and Hudson, Colton & Emma; Tori (Jon) Schneider and Willow & Mary; Madison Puthoff (Cruz Stepp, fiancée); Jennifer (Joseph) Minnich and Andrew, Ezekiel & Matthew; Amy (Lance) Neeley and Lincoln, Hudson, Henry, Jaxson; Kevin (Linsey) Schneider and Connor; Joseph (Cara) Schneider; Rachael (Zachary) Deitering; Alicia (Nicholas) Owen and Amelia; David (Madison) Sawmiller and William; Mark Sawmiller; Erika (Zachary) Fuchik and Lily; Tristen Bellman(Jordan Mestemaker, fiancee) and Gannon; Kaylee Schnippel, Aubrianna Schnippel; Noah Bishop; Isaac Bishop; Zachary Bishop; Brooklyn Bishop; Hunter Phillips; Colby Phillips; Camden Phillips; Elliana Phillips; Sabrina Phillips.
Valgene was preceded in death by a sister and brother-in-law Arlene & Kermit Warner.
Valgene was a 1952 graduate of Buckland High School and served in the U.S. Army where he was stationed in Germany for 2 years. He then returned home to run the family farm. He was a member of the NFO, Farmers Union and Salem United Methodist Church.
Funeral services will begin at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, May 30, 2024 at Harvest Baptist Church with Pastors Gary Bragg & Tony Dirr officiating. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery, Wapakoneta with military rites being performed by the V.F.W. Post 8445. Family and friends may visit from 2-8 p.m. Wednesday at Schlosser Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Wapakoneta.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be directed to Salem United Methodist Church.
