Frances T. (Walczyk) Osberg
November 16, 1921 - October 4, 2024
Frances (Fran) T. Osberg of Vandenberg Village passed away peacefully on Friday, October 4, 2024 at the age of 102 years.
Fran was born Nov. 16, 1921 on a dairy farm in Gilman, WI to Valentine Walczyk and Katherine Szczepaniak, the 6th of 7 children.
After graduating from Gilman High School, Fran went to live with her sister Gertrude and family in Chicago, where she worked for a family as a nanny and a cook to earn money for nursing school.
In 1940, Fran moved to Indiana Harbor, Indiana and attended St. Catherine Hospital Nursing School.
Fran lived with her sister Mary and her family until the dorms were opened at the school.
After graduating nursing school in 1944, Fran moved to Berwyn, with a fellow nurse and friend, and worked as an RN in the Chicago area. It was there that she met Richard Osberg at a Riverside Ski Club social event. Dick and Fran were married in Riverside, on May 1, 1954.
While in Riverside, Fran gave birth to Margaret (Meg) in 1955 and Charles (Chuck) in 1957.
In 1958, Fran and her new family moved to Milwaukee, WI where they made lifelong friends with their neighbors, fellow golfers and skiers, and friends from AC Spark Plugs Inc. (later to become Delco Electronics) where Dick was employed as a Mechanical Engineer.
The family moved to Goleta, CA with Delco Electronics from 1972- 1989. After retirement, the family moved to Vandenberg Village in Jan. 1989 to present, where Fran and Dick enjoyed golfing as charter equity members of the Village Country Club.
Fran loved to cook, entertain, golf, ski, bowl, fish, pheasant hunt, garden, play bridge/cards, and make a loving home for her family.
Fran will be remembered for her sweet and happy disposition, strong faith, knowledge of health and well being, and opening her heart and home to all.
Fran is survived by her daughter Meg Mersereau Andrews of Vandenberg Village, son Chuck and daughter-in-law Gina Osberg of Lompoc, five grandchildren: Katie (Nish) Bhargava of Maryland, Hannah (Calvin) Curtis of Vandenberg Village, Nick Osberg of Lompoc, Alex (Rachel) Mersereau of San Diego and Sam Andrews of NYC, four great grandchildren: Halle and Charleigh Curtis, Beckett and Graham Bhargava, as well as many nieces/nephews, great nieces/nephews, great great nieces/ nephews, and great great great nieces/nephews.
Fran will be missed by her family and her many lifelong friends over the past 102 years.
A Celebratory Mass will be held on Saturday, December 28, 2024 at 10:00 AM at Queen Of Angels Church, 3495 Rucker Rd.,
