Edith Eloise Marlowe Miller

July 24, 1927 - January 7, 2025

Mrs. Edith Eloise Marlowe Miller, 97, died on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, at her residence. She was the daughter of the late George B. She graduated from Appalachian State Teachers College (now University) with a B.S. degree in Mathematics and Social Studies. She taught in Valdese High School and Old Fort High School.

She also worked for the Federal government, first in the National Weather Records Center in Asheville, NC. She transferred to Washington, DC where she worked as a meteorological technician in several projects of Hydrology Studies, Polar Meteorology Research, and Atmospheric Research of what is now the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).

She and William "Bill" Eads Miller were married in the First Church of the Nazarene of Washington, DC, in April 1968.

The Melwood Church honored Eloise with "The Distinguished Service Award" for her many years serving on the Church Board of Stewards, Sunday School Teacher, and Mission Study Leader.

In 1987 she and her husband William "Bill" Eads Miller moved to the Bethlehem Community of Alexander County. In Grace Baptist Church she was organist for approximately 10 years, served as teacher of the Ladies Sunday School Class, mission study leader, and Just Older Youth leader. She was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church where she was a Sunday School teacher. She also helped with the music of Friendly Baptist Church. She has been President of the Bethlehem Golden Chain Retirees Club for several years and has had various other offices there.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, William "Bill" Eads Miller; her sister and her husband, Eulalia and Henry Ingram; her brother and his wife, Eugene and Bonnie Marlowe; her brother-in-law, Russell P. Miller, Jr. She is survived by nieces; nephews; great nieces; great nephews; cousins and friends.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 9, 2025 at 3 p.m. at Bethlehem Baptist Church. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:30 to 2:45 p.m. at the church. Rev. Dean Chambers, Rev. Derek Joas and Rev. Jimmy Preachers will officiate the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family would like to express appreciation the those who have provided care to Eloise.
