Robert Brown Obituary

Robert E. (Bob) Brown of Marietta slipped quietly from this earth early in the morning of August 7, 2025 four months shy of his 99th birthday. He is survived by daughter Margaret-Ann Buchanan and her husband Jim, daughter V. Susan Kearney and her husband Steve, his sister Virginia L. Brown and a multitude of nieces and nephews, great nieces and great nephews. He was predeceased by his wife of 59 years, Iris Owen Brown, who passed away in 2009 and brothers Richard, Don, George and sister Margaret.

Bob was one of six children who grew up in Waycross, Georgia during the Great Depression. He enlisted in the Navy as a Seaman on PT boats toward the end of World War II and was stationed in Japan as the occupation force at the conclusion of hostilities. After returning to Georgia, he spent a year at Georgia Tech University before realizing Engineering was not his forte and thus transferred to the University of Georgia to study Business. During the Korean war, Bob reenlisted as an Officer in the U.S. Army. After his discharge as a Captain, he returned to East Point, Georgia where he embarked on a career selling Aviation insurance. As a requirement of his occupation, Bob learned to fly and received his pilot license thus beginning a lifelong love affair with aviation. He always had a keen interest in politics and was elected as the only Republican Mayor of East Point in 1968. Bob was a true entrepreneur and dabbled in many businesses. Realizing that education never ceases, he enrolled in Georgia State University and received his MBA in Finance. In 1972, Bob became the CEO of Northside Aviation, an aircraft services company and flight school at McCollum airport which later became Cobb County International Airport. He held this position until 2000 when he retired.

Bob was always very active in his community. He served as President of The Georgia Air Transportation Association, Commissioner of the Atlanta Regional Commission, President of Kennesaw Business Association, President of South Fulton Chamber of Commerce, lifelong member of the Rotary Club and active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Marietta where he was an Elder and taught Bible/Sunday school well into his 90's.

Bob's Celebration of Life will be held at First Presbyterian Church, 189 Church Street, Marietta, GA 30060 on Thursday, August 28th, 2025 at 2:00 P.M. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations may be made to Tunnel to Towers Foundation or to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

I knew Bob for a short few years when he was a vender at One Of A Kind resale shop in Marietta. A man of wit, wisdom and kindness he was easily on of the best humans I´ve ever known. I will be forever grateful that our paths crossed and I will forever see his mischievous smile in my minds eye. My condolences to his family, I know he will be dearly missed.

A wonderful individual who taught our community how to navigate life. One of the kindest people I have ever met.
