SIDNEY - Melvin Lee Bailey, 83 of Sidney, OH passed away on Monday, September 16, 2024, in Hospice of Miami County, Troy, OH.
He was born on November 15, 1940, in Piqua, OH to the late Melvin Samuel and Ethel (Godfrey) Bailey.
He graduated from Covington High School in 1958 and proudly served his country in the Ohio National Guard & U.S. Army. Over his distinguished career, he was the owner of St. Paris Welding & Fabrication and B&W Manufacturing in Troy, and he retired from Gokoh Coldwater Inc in Coldwater, MI, and Troy, OH, after many years of dedicated service. His passions included watching OSU Buckeyes and the Cincinnati Bengals, gardening, antique cars, and all things about history. He especially loved being outside, particularly watching the night sky.
He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Margaret (Feathers) Bailey, whom he married on October 13, 1962, in Covington, Ohio. He is also survived by four children; Dee Childress, Parker (Lisa) Bailey, Edd Bailey, Matt (Jessica) Bailey, 10 grandchildren; Brittney (Christian) Eshelman, Elizabeth (James) Houts, Rebecca (Jordan) Huffman, Sam Bailey, Maddy Bailey, Stephanie Childress & Bryant White, Catherine Childress, and Dylan, Noah & Claire Bailey, 8 great grandchildren; Audrey & Evelyn Eshelman, Thomas, Benjamin, & Nathan Houts, Vivi Letteer, Goldie & Junie Huffman, and brother-in-law Kenny Enz.
He is preceded in death by his parents, sister Joyce and brother Richard Forrest Bailey.
A gathering of family and friends will be held from 12:00 P.M. to 2:00 P.M. on Friday, September 20, 2024, in Atkins, Shively & Vernon Funeral home, 216 S. Springfield St, St Paris, Ohio. Funeral service will follow, beginning at 2:00 P.M. on Friday, September 20, 2024, in the funeral home.
Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, St Paris. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Miami County. Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.vernonfh.com.
