Eugene Holtkamp Obituary

Eugene Henry Holtkamp, 78, of Montrose, passed away unexpectedly at 10:33 a.m. on Thursday, July 24, 2025 at Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center in Fort Madison.

He was born on Nov. 24, 1946 in Fort Madison to Wilbur "Bill" and Veronica Hinker Holtkamp. He married Evelyn "Marie" McMeins on Oct. 29, 1966 in Fort Madison. He worked for the Clark Service Station in Fort Madison and was a boat mechanic at Dave's Marine in Fort Madison and later Bluff Harbor in Burlington. He enjoyed watching the races, NASCAR and westerns on TV.

Gene is survived by his wife, Marie Holtkamp of Montrose; a son, Robert "Bob" Holtkamp of Montrose; a daughter, Diane (Tim) Sugars of Montrose; two grandchildren: Tyler (fiancé Hayley) Sugars of Fort Madison and Abby Sugars of Montrose; two great-grandchildren: Torin and Theo Sugars; a brother, Don Holtkamp of West Point; three sisters: Carol (Gene) Foehring of Fort Madison, Mary (Keith) Shelman of Mt. Pleasant and Joan (C.E.) McCarty of Edina, Mo. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Jimmy Holtkamp.

Cremation has been entrusted to the care of King-Lynk Funeral Home & Crematory. A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, July 28, 2025 at Montrose Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for the Montrose Fire Department.
