Katie was born on July 18, 1987, in Burlington, to Douglas Bruce Hayes and Dianne Noel Hayes. She joined big brother, Bradley and big sister, Elizabeth.

Katie attended Wapello Community School, but graduated from Lone Tree Community School. She then attended Carlson College of Massage Therapy. She became a CNA, working at various nursing homes and as a home health aide, where she sustained employment altering back injuries leading to chronic back pain, but that did not prevent her from living her life to the fullest.

On Sept. 10, 2016, Katie married her best friend and love of her life, Cheston Ray Rechenberger at Camp Langwood. Katie loved anything outdoors, especially water related, from floating down the river to "Yaking" at Odessa.

Taking "Marge" on camping excursions cross country or for the weekend was another passion of hers. Starfishing on the back of the bike with her husband. Gardening and canning were something she enjoyed. She was looking forward to raising bees and chickens. She frequented thrift/resale stores, getting excited when finding her bargains.

She loved family and friends. She would do anything for them, even if it meant the next day she was unable to function due to pain. Katie was the glue that held so many people together.

Katie will be deeply missed by her husband, Cheston; mother, Dianne; sister, Elizabeth; special niece, Camille and nephew, Remington; grandmother Carolyn Frahm; mother-in-law, Cheryl Rechenberger; brother-in-law, Charles Rechenberger, Jr.; sister-in-law, Chasity (Jason) Warnstaff and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Katie was preceded in death by her father, Douglas Hayes; brother, Bradley Hayes; paternal grandmother, Pauline Hayes; maternal grandfathers, Robert Burgdorf and Edwin Frahm; maternal great-grandparents, Marion and Irma Kuntz; father-in-law, Charles Rechenberger Sr. and brother-in-law, Christopher Rechenberger.
