Rebecca Dorsey-Brown Obituary

In the tender embrace of time, we honor the memory of a remarkable soul, Rebecca Manena (Nina) Dorsey-Brown, who graced this world for 68 years. She was born in Mobile, Alabama on December 25, 1954, to her beloved parents: mother, Mose Dean Jackson, biological father, Cornelius Baker, and God-given father, Walter Jackson who raised her from two years old. She departed this life on September 20, 2023. She was a paragon of love, her heart radiating an unconditional, agape love that knew no bounds. Her warm and friendly spirit touched the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing her.

A woman of extraordinary kindness and nurturing nature, she was the embodiment of forgiveness and compassion. Rebecca carried love in every step of her journey, and her love continues to resonate in our hearts.

Rebecca had a way of making everyone feel cherished and valued. Her heart was a sanctuary of love, and her kindness was a beacon of light in the lives she touched. She had an innate ability to nurture not only her children, but also the dreams and aspirations of those she loved.

Her forgiving nature was a testament to her immense strength and grace. She taught us that forgiveness is not a sign of weakness but a profound act of love and healing. In a world that often tests our capacity to love, she stood as a steadfast reminder that love, in its purest form, endures.

Rebecca lived her life by the profound motto, 'kill them with kindness.' She understood that in a world often marked by strife and conflict, the most potent weapon one could wield was not aggression but boundless compassion.

With every gesture of love and every act of kindness, she proved the transformative power of her mantra. Her life was a testament to the belief that one could overcome adversity, mend broken relationships, and bring light to even the darkest of moments through unwavering kindness.

She demonstrated that kindness was not a passive virtue but a courageous and active force for good. In her presence, hearts softened, wounds healed, and smiles bloomed. Rebecca was a living embodiment of the idea that, no matter the circumstances, there was always room for a little more kindness in the world.

Rebecca was a 1972 graduate of Murphy High School. While in Mobile, she attended her family church, Mount Hebron A.M.E. Zion Church serving in the church choir, usher board, and Sunday school teacher. She was blessed to live in Chicago, Illinois, Los Angeles, California, and Jacksonville, Florida. During her time in Jacksonville, Florida she attended The Church of the Risen Lord where she served in the choir, Women's Ministry, and Outreach Ministry. In 2023, she joined the University Oaks Bowling Team.

She was preceded in death by her parents: Mose Dean Jackson, Walter Jackson, and Cornelius Baker. Rebecca leaves to cherish her memories, husband, Dwayne Brown; children: Brent (Ashley/Fiancé) Johnson, Aaron (Knecol) Dorsey, and Manina (Amos) Jackson-Hill; stepchild, Alma Thomas; grandchildren: Addison Hinkle, Jordan Lomax, Paige Johnson, Arianna Dorsey, Peyton Johnson, Tariah Berry, Samiah Calhoun, Aaliyah Hill, Azalea Hill, Aiyannah Moore, Tatannia Bryant, Ranesha Harris, Iyanna Fletcher, Areana Fletcher, Marianna Thomas; great-grandchild, Zhuri Spencer; step-mother, Shirley Baker; siblings: Danitza Dorsey, Eddie Washington, Gary (Melva) Jackson, Phyllis Jackson, Melvin Jackson, Cornelia Lynn Baker, LaMonica Williams, Rodney O'neal Baker, Anthony Garcia; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, great nieces, and great-nephews.

As we celebrate her life and bid her farewell in 2023, let us carry forward her legacy, remembering that, in her words and actions, she taught us that kindness has the power to conquer all. May her example inspire us to be agents of love, kindness, and transformation in our own lives, just as she was in hers.
