Lamar Franklin Bryans, age 86, peacefully passed away on July 1, 2025 at his home in the Greshamville community in Greene County. He was born on October 30, 1938 in Atlanta, Georgia to the late Alford Rocele Bryans and Marguerite Elizabeth Bryans. Lamar graduated from Fulton High School in the class of 1957.
After high school, he worked for the Coca-Cola company in Atlanta, Georgia. In 1962, he was drafted by the United States Army and proudly served in Germany in the 2nd Evacuation Hospital Unit and the Triple Eight Ambulance Company until 1968.
Lamar welcomed his son, William Rocele Bryans in August of 1963 and his daughter Charment Lea Bryans in December of 1965. In 1972, Lamar moved his family to Greshamville, Georgia where he began his poultry and cattle farm. Living his dream, he began his wood working business, Oak Ridge Crafts, in the early 1980's with partner and friend George Copelan. Upon retirement in 2001, he enjoyed fishing, building furniture, and socializing with his large family and many friends. In 2005, he became a loving and doting Papa to his only grandchild.
As a pillar in the Greshamville community, Lamar helped to found the Greshamville Volunteer Fire Department and was a member of the Greene County Livestock Association. Being a member of The Putnam Hunting Club was a highlight of his life where he enjoyed sitting around a campfire swapping stories with his friends. He was also a member of New Hope Baptist Church in Greshamville.
His survivors include many life long friends; a loving and devoted daughter, Charment Bryans of Greshamville; a loving son, Bill Bryans (Marie) of Madison, and a granddaughter, Camilla Bryans; a sister Sandra Marchman (late husband Billy Wayne) of Siloam, Betty Baker (late husband Jim Baker) of Madison, and his brother, Pat Tanner (Lynne) of Alma. He is also survived by many beloved cousins, nieces, and nephews such as Reid Ballard (Stacey) and Dakota Ballard (Lilly), and Zandy Cook (late husband Fred Cook) who held a special place in his heart.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Helen Thurmond (late W.J. Thurmond) and a brother Charlie "Bud" Bryans (Jewell Bryans).
Graveside services will be held on Saturday, July 5, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. at New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery in Greshamville.
