Latham Lester Obituary

Latham E. "Lake" Lester

January 8, 1942 - October 4, 2025

Latham E. 'Lake' Lester, age 83, passed peacefully at his home in Warrenton, VA on Saturday, October 4th ,2025.

Lake was born in Fanrock WV, and lived with his parents Ken & Edner Lester and 5 siblings in Indian Creek, WV. After high school graduation Lake moved to Chicago to work near his oldest brother, Lonnie. He joined the Air Force in 1962, serving at Offut AFB in the SAC Elite Guard guarding the underground command center, and was on the SAC Elite Guard Drill Team. After his AF service he settled in this area, working at The Stag Shops for many years. Lake later opened his own men's clothing store in Fairfax, Court Clothiers, having trained in fine fabrics and custom fitting men's suits as a member of the Custom Tailor's Association. He spent the last 10 years prior to retirement in Dec 2004 in the custom suit department of Hecht Co/Macy's at Fair Oaks & Tyson's Corner. After retirement he continued to serve several clients as a personal clothing consultant as owner of Court Clothing.

In Dec 2002 he met his future wife, Terri, and they married in Oct 2004. In 2007 they moved to Warrenton VA and loved the lifestyle and neighbors in Casanova. Lake and Terri owned a condo at the top of the mountain in Wintergreen. Hiking the Appalachian Trails running thru Wintergreen, especially in the Fall, was by far their favorite activity. Lake loved his Bluegrass music and attended concerts and festivals with friends when possible.

Lake was faithful and steadfast in his love for God. He, and later with his wife Terri, spent many years as members of NOVA PB Church in Fairfax, with Lake singing in the choir and serving as a Deacon. His church family was very important to him.

Lake always had a smile and a kind word for everyone. When you remember the kind and gentle man that Lake was, please smile and offer someone else a kindness that day. Lake is survived by his wife, Terri Flight; a brother, Leslie Lester of Front Royal, VA; two sisters in law, Mary Crigler & her husband, Chris of Warrenton, VA and Joan Flight & her husband, Richie Lang of Jamestown, NC; many nieces & nephews, Scott Crigler & his wife, Laura of Warrenton, Tim Crigler & his wife, Danielle also of Warrenton, Matthew Lester & his wife, Jennifer of Inwood, WV, Suzanne Kline & her husband, Scott of Strasburg, VA, Becca Lester of Front Royal, VA, John Lester & his wife, Angie of Norton, VA, Bill Lester & his wife, Irene of Wise, VA; and numerous great nieces and nephews, extended family and friends.
