Robert Pratt Obituary

Robert G. Pratt

February 24, 1945 - January 28, 2025

Robert Pratt of Starkville, Miss. passed away at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo, Miss. on January 28, 2025. Robert was born February 24, 1945 to Donald A. and Ruth A. Pratt in Racine, Wis.

Robert is survived by two sons, James N. Pratt and Phillip R. Pratt, as well as five grandchildren, Nicholas Pratt, Jennifer Pratt, Abigail Pratt, Collin Miller, and Kamryn Miller. Robert was preceded in death by his parents; brother, James R. Pratt; and sister, Margaret L. Pratt Christopherson.

Robert received a Ph.D. in biology from the University of Wisconsin in 1975. He married Susan Lucas of Corpus Christi, Texas in 1978 and they both settled in Starkville where Robert was employed as a research scientist with the United States Department of Agriculture for 33 years. His expertise was the study of crop diseases.

Robert enjoyed hunting, fishing, and going on walks in Noxubee Wildlife Refuge. He also enjoyed reading about American history and was an armchair expert on the Civil War and World War II. After retirement, he spent his free time performing experiments at home with corn and wheat, trying to figure out ways to improve crop yields without artificial fertilizers.

Robert's remains will be interned at his family plot at Mound Cemetery in Racine, Wis.
