Barbara J. Stewart, born on August 29, 1933, in Kosciusko County Indiana, to Omer Otis and Beatrice M. (VanPherson) Coldren, passed away peacefully on October 25, 2025, at the Peabody Healthcare Center in North Manchester, Indiana.
After graduating from Laketon High School as valedictorian of her class, Barbara began her working career at Heckman Bindery and Warner Corporation. Her most notable tenure was at North Manchester Foundry, where she served with dedication from 1967 until her retirement in 1995. Throughout her professional life, Barbara exemplified a strong work ethic and an unwavering commitment to those around her.
On May 3, 1958, Barbara married the love of her life, James L. Stewart. Their union was one marked by love and companionship, nurturing a family together. Sadly, James predeceased her on December 15, 2014. Together, they raised one son, Stephen, who carries forward her values and spirit.
Barbara was a woman of many interests. Although she never served in the military, she was involved as a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 286 in North Manchester and also contributed her time as a member of Women of the Moose.
The loving memory of Barbara Stewart will be forever cherished by her son, Stephen J. (Nancy) Stewart, Marco Island, Florida; sisters, Brenda (Larry) Landis, Wabash and Becky Burton, Lafayette; and several nieces and nephews. Barbara was preceded in death by her parents; husband, James L. Stewart; brothers, William Coldren and Keith Coldren; and sisters, Beverly J. Coldren, Betty Smith, Carol Paul, and Edna Tracy.
Family and friends may call Wednesday, October 29, 2025 from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. at McKee Mortuary, 1401 State Road 114 West, North Manchester, Indiana. Funeral services will begin at the conclusion of calling with Pastor Ron Burns, Richard Tracy, and Pastor J.P. Freeman officiating. Burial will be held at Oaklawn Cemetery in North Manchester.
The family of Barbara Stewart has entrusted McKee Mortuary with care and final arrangements.
