Goldsboro- Alan Blair Clayman, 89, passed away on Tuesday, July 29, 2025 at Kitty Askins Hospice Center. Born on October 20, 1935 in Cambridge Massachusetts, he was son to the late Harry Clayman and Celia Wantman Clayman.

Alan dedicated 20 years to the United States Air Force, courageously serving during the Vietnam War. His service in the Air Force was not just a duty-it was a calling that meant everything to him. In his earlier years, Alan found great joy riding with the Goldwing Motorcycle Group. He loved the sense of freedom the open road offered, the thrill of travel, and the friendships formed along the way. Those rides weren't just about the destination-they were about the laughter, shared stories, and the simple pleasure of the wind at his back.

After his military service, Alan found a new kind of fulfillment working at Smith Hardware. He took great pride in his work and especially enjoyed helping customers-always taking the time to offer advice, share a laugh, or lend a hand. For Alan, it was never just a job; it was a way to stay connected to his community and serve others in a meaningful way. Almost daily, Alan could be seen riding his lawnmower with care and determination, making sure every blade of grass was trimmed to perfection. Tending to his yard was one of his favorite pastimes and a reflection of his love for order and beauty.

Above all, Alan's cat Barney was the true apple of his eye. The two shared a special bond, and Barney was never far from his side. Spending time with Barney was one of Alan's greatest joys. The two shared countless peaceful afternoons together and their companionship was a source of comfort and happiness throughout the years.

Alan is survived by his wife, Sally Ruth Brown Clayman; his daughters, Darcy C. Lancaster and husband, Carl, and Lori C. Whitfield and husband, Al; his son, David R. Clayman and wife, Lori; grandchildren, Tyler Mills and wife, Emily, Taylor Mills and wife, Jillian, Noah Clayman, Nikki Clayman and Carly Lancaster; great-grandchildren, Michael Mills, Ryder Mills, Raylin Mills, Alice Mills, Evie Mills and Declan Mills.

In addition to his parents, Alan was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Clayman and his grandson, Alexander Clayman.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, July 31, 2025 from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home for a time of visitation. A graveside service to honor Alan's life will be held at 12:30 p.m. at Wayne Memorial Park with Pastor Bill Rose officiating.

Services are entrusted to Seymour Funeral Home and Cremation Service.
