Alan Barnes Netherton, age 45, of Brooklyn, New York, passed away on July 27, 2025. Born on August 15, 1979, in Nevada, Missouri, he was the son of Paula Barnes Netherton and Jack Alan Netherton, and the stepson of Cheryl Netherton. Alan grew up in Maysville, Arkansas, where he first began honing his creative skills with duct tape and scrap lumber, built his own tree house, and was baptized in Beaty Creek after being saved at a young age at Maysville Missionary Baptist Church. He played football, ran track, and led "The Dendrites" (the academic quiz bowl team) to victory at Jay High School, where he left behind a legacy of good times and good-hearted pranks. Alan later graduated from Oklahoma State University with a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre.
Shortly after graduation, Alan moved to Brooklyn, New York, where he was an actor, art & artifact mount maker, Associate Project Director at R.H. Guest Exhibit Production, artisan manufacturer, problem solver, puppeteer, raconteur, and bona fide Renaissance man. His proudest accomplishments included his work at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, making movies, performing on stage-and, of course, his dance moves. Alan was skilled, intelligent, and lit up every room with his smile and charm, but the light of his life was clearly his daughters. Being a dad was his greatest role. Alan was kind, energetic, charming, full of love, magnetic, fun-loving, hilarious, compassionate, and deeply talented. He was a natural coach and teacher who helped so many believe in themselves and connected easily with people from all walks of life and corners of the world. He was also an organ donor, and his heart-the strongest, most beautiful part of him-lives on in a precious final "encore" with another family. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. Alan is preceded in death by his grandparents. He is survived by his wife, Zeynep, and his daughters, Jauveda Asena (9) and Kaira Evelyn (3); his parents, Paula Netherton, Jack and Cheryl Netherton; his father and mother-in-law, Shaban and Mubeccel Catalbas; his brother, Boone Netherton; his sisters, Brooke Elisar (husband, Brad), Kammy Hopper (husband, Charlie), and Jenny Bell (husband, Shannon); and his brother-in-law, Zafer (wife, Emina). He was "Fun"cle Alan to Gracie, Attie, Emily, Luke, Quinten, Pyke, Zehra, Lucy, Ainsleigh, Taytum, and Lina. He also leaves behind aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family members, and many friends who felt like family. Alan's Celebration of Life Family Visitation to greet friends will be held Sunday, August 10, 2025 from 3:00-5:00pm at Lawson's Funeral Homes & Cremation Services, 311 W. Gray St., Jay, OK 74346. Alan's Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at Maysville Missionary Baptist Church, 12016 N. Highway 43, Maysville, Arkansas 72747 on Monday at 11:00am, August 11, 2025, with Pastor Sam Reddin officiating. Alan's service will conclude at the church. Arrangements are entrusted to Lawson's Funeral Homes & Cremation Services, 311 W. Gray St., Jay, OK 74346 with Shaunda J. Lawson, 3rd Generation Owner/Funeral Director and Staff.

Alan was always a character and always was the center of attention when we was at football practice or basically anywhere. I can´t say I was close to him but I he was always the light in the room and could bring a smile to your face even on the worst days.

I'm so very sorry to hear about the tragic passing of Alan. He was a true friend and I have many fond memories of our times together with the theatre tribe at Oklahoma State University. He was such a gifted artist and the world is worse off without him. Rest in Peace and Glory, my friend!
