Albert "Steve" Brighton, 81, of Monticello New York passed away on July 16th, 2025, surrounded by his wife and children. He was born on July 2,1944 in Long Island City, New York to Agnes Treiber and LeRoy T. Brighton.
Steve was a man with many stories and was ready with a joke or prank no matter where he was. He loved his family with his whole heart and was very proud of how much it had grown. He was an avid golfer and always rooted for his favorite team, the Mets.
Steve served in the U.S Army from 1962-1964 and became a dedicated member of the VFW post 5497 out of Otisville. He served as the proud Postmaster of Bethel for 10 years. Steve was also a member of the Monticello Fire Department for 49 years as well as a member of the Sullivan County Fire Police Association. He was a dedicated member of his church (St. Peter's) where he was a Eucharistic Minister and lector for many years. Steve or Mr. B, as many knew him, served as a youth leader for the local CYO.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Margaret "Peggy" Brighton, their three children: Connie Van Keuren her husband Todd, Christopher Brighton his wife Jessica and Cara Nicholson and husband Robbie. His nine grandchildren; Corey Van Keuren (Alyssa Van Keuren), Jenna Booth (Bo Booth), Taylor Van Keuren (Lauren Van Keuren), Brandi Coleman (Justin Coleman), Jack Brighton (Michaella Decker), Logan Brighton, Emma Nicholson, Delaney Nicholson and RJ Nicholson. His eight; great -grandchildren Eliana, Chase, Ella, Sadie, Ellis, Lincoln, Jaxon and Olivia. As well as his brothers LeRoy Brighton (Jane Brighton), Joe Antoniato (Terry Antoniato) and many nieces and nephews. Albert was predeceased by both his parents: Agnes Treiber Brighton and LeRoy T. Brighton.

Visitation will be held on Monday, July 21 from 2:00 to 4:00pm and 7:00-9:00pm at the VanInwegen-Kenny Funeral Home, 401 Broadway in Monticello. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, July 22 at 11:00am at St. Peter's Catholic Church, Broadway and Liberty Street in Monticello with Fr. Bob Porpora officiating. Burial will follow at St. Peter's Cemetery in Monticello with Military honors.
