Albert "Al" J. Notz, age 97, of Mt. Carroll, Illinois, died Wednesday, March 19, 2025 at Allure Nursing Home in Sterling, Illinois. Albert was born March 18, 1928, the son of Albert C. Notz and Berta (Roberts) Notz in Savanna, Illinois. He attended high school in Savanna, where he met the love of his life, Betty Ann Hartman. On January 1, 1948, Betty and Albert married at the St. Peter Lutheran Church parsonage in Savanna. Together they raised four children and celebrated 71 years of marriage. Betty passed away on July 21, 2019.
Albert worked all his career as a mechanic in Savanna. He started out working at Vic Wagner's garage in 1946, and throughout the years worked for various service stations in Savanna. He retired in 1991 having last worked for Garvin Service Center (Now Milo & Beaver's). He was well known in the area and many people only brought their vehicles to him. Many of his customers became good friends. He was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in Savanna. Albert enjoyed fishing, hunting, woodworking, working on vehicles, and spending time with his family. He loved his coffee and crossword puzzles.
Albert will be dearly missed by his four children, Nicholas Notz of Mt. Carroll, Jan Riedel of Canal Winchester, Ohio, Torey Notz (Dean Klein Sr.) of South Wayne, Wisconsin, and Brenda (Lance) Arnold of Freeport, Illinois; four grandchildren, Heidi (Matt) Dillon, Heather (Chuck) Comfort, Holly (Mark) Tanzillo and Dean (Eryn) Klein Jr, and 12 great-grandchildren.
Albert is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Betty Ann; parents, Albert C. Notz and Berta (Roberts) Notz; a grandson, Daniel L. Riedel III., and one brother, Karl Notz.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, March 29th, 2025 at St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church, Savanna, Illinois. Burial will take place in St. Peter's Lutheran Cemetery, Savanna. Visitation will be held from 9:30-10:30 a.m., prior to the service at the Church. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.lawjonesfuneralhome.com
