Aldege Boucher Obituary

With a twinkle in his eye and a joke always at the ready, Aldege J. Boucher (Al) of Fitchburg, Massachusetts, wove a tapestry of laughter and love throughout his life. Born on December 23, 1928, in Saint Blandine, Rimouski, Quebec, Canada into a family of fourteen children, Al brought a spark of humor and wit to every room he entered. Al came to the United States as a young child in the 1930's, settling in Fitchburg. It was there he remained as a life-long resident. Full of energy, life and love until his final day, he passed away unexpectedly on February 27, 2025, at the age of 96, less than a day after being stricken ill. Al leaves a legacy of joy and inspiration that will not be forgotten.

Aldege spent the bulk of his career as a machine operator in various woolen and paper mills in the city. He was hired for his first job in the woolen mill due to his athletic prowess, so that he could be a part of the company's softball team. He then spent over twenty-five years at the former James River Paper Mill in various capacities. His work ethic was as sturdy as the paper he produced, but his true passion lay in his family and his hobbies. He was a lover of all sports, especially the local teams. He never missed watching a Red Sox or Patriots game and was ferociously passionate and knowledgeable about all of the rules of the games (especially the NFL which he referred to as the "National Fixed League"). Throughout his long life, he was a champion speed skater, hockey player, City billiards champion, and talented baseball and softball player until injuries led him to discover his love for the game of golf.

Al was a formidable presence on the golf course where you could find him until his early nineties. He was a member at Monoosnock Country Club during his early years enjoying the game, and then later at Westminster Country Club. It was there you could find him either out on the course or the first tee as a starter, where he offered a joke, a tip about the game or simply a smile. He gained many friendships through golf and played many competitive matches, culminating in winning various Championships, both individual and as part of a foursome. When he wasn't swinging a club or watching a game, he was spending time with his cherished family and taking weekly trips to the casino. Though his love for sports was immense, there was nothing more important than his family, which was truly the center of his world.

Aldege was the loving husband of Dorina (Pam) Boucher, with whom he recently celebrated seventy years of marriage. Together they built a life filled with laughter and love. He was an inspiring father to his daughter, Michelle Beauvais, and a doting "papa" to Tanner and Kendall Cote, the lights of his life. He is also survived by his brothers, Alberic (of California) and Norman Boucher (of North Carolina), many brother and sister-in-laws, his son-in-law, Matthew Beauvais and his son Camren. He also leaves a multitude of cherished nieces and nephews who he saw regularly, especially Sharon Doiron and Kevin Boucher who continued his brother Oscar's annual Christmas tradition which Al looked forward to every year. Aldege was preceded in death by his parents Alphonse and Marie-Anne Boucher, his sisters Anna Gagnon, Evelina Boucher, Marie Lashua, Rita Hakola, Rolande Bourgault, Valerie Holroyd, Lucy Carfaro, and his brothers Nelson, Oscar, Roger, and Phil Boucher. 

The world may be a little less funny without Aldege, but his love and laughter live on in those who knew him. As we remember him, let's hold on to the joy he brought into our lives and the lessons he taught us about the importance of family, fun, and a good punch line.

Burial will be private and at a later date, however a Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday March 9, 2025 from 12:00-3:00pm at the Knights of Columbus 165 Electric Ave, Fitchburg.
