Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 20, 2025.
Alethea W. Kinsey, 85, died June 13, 2025. Alethea was born and raised in Metuchen New Jersey. After graduating from Danbury State Teachers College, she served as an elementary school teacher in the Plainfield School district for several years. She married George Kinsey Jr. in 1961. She later moved to Bridgewater New Jersey in 1971 to raise her family. Alethea was a lifetime member of the First Presbyterian Church of Metuchen. As a descendant of Revolutionary War patriot Col. Johnathon Pettibone, she served as treasurer of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR)'s Matochshoning chapter. In her spare time, she enjoyed volunteering in the community (PTA president, 4H, Bridgewater Raritan (BRHS) West Band parents), knitting, crocheting, expanding her collections, and staying involved with the lives of friends and family. Alethea later moved to Culver City, California in 2017 to be close to family. She will be sadly missed by all.

She is predeceased by her husband of 44 years, George Kinsey Jr. who died in 2005, and siblings Cynthia White, Nancy Kipp, and Ret. U.S. Navy Captain Otto W. Will III.

Surviving are George Kinsey III, his wife Cheryl, Gregory Kinsey, and grandchildren Margot, Logan, Megan, and Lisa.

Funeral services will be 11am, Tuesday July 8, 2025, beginning with a visitation at 10am at Bruce C. VanArsdale Funeral Home, 111 N. Gaston Ave, Somerville, NJ 08876. Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery in Scotch Plains.
