Alex Kemp, a promising 19-year-old cross-country and track student athlete from Lincroft, New Jersey, tragically passed away on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, following a skiing accident at Jiminy Peak Mountain Resort in Massachusetts.
Since Alex was a young boy, he had a kind and gentle way about him, warmly smiling at anyone he encountered. Alex loved playing with his friends and sharing and helping others. He carried himself with grace, kindness and maturity that made others want to be around him.
A recent graduate of Christian Brothers Academy in Lincroft NJ, and member of the National Honor Society, Alex was a freshman at Williams College, studying Economics and Political Science, and had already distinguished himself as an exceptional athlete. During his senior year of high school, he placed ninth at the NJSIAA Cross Country Meet of Champions and was the Non-Public A State Champion in the 3200m. Alex thrived in challenging situations and loved the process of hard work. At Williams College, Alex quickly became a valued member of the cross-country team and finished as the top freshman in the field at the NCAA DIII Cross Country Championship. His coach remembered him as having a self-assured, positive, kind way about him and being deeply committed to his teammates. Alex brought such joy to every heart he came into contact with. He was humble and kind and an exemplary human being.
Alex stood out as a student athlete not only for his physical abilities but also for his personal qualities. He was described as fearless and incredibly motivated, consistently pushing himself in both training and competition, but despite his competitive spirit, Alex was deeply team-oriented, taking genuine joy in the success of his teammates, even on days when he didn't perform at his best. His self-assured, positive, and kind demeanor made him a natural leader and a valued teammate and friend, fostering a supportive environment wherever he went.
A devoted and loving son, the loss of Alex is felt deeply by his family, friends, teammates, coaches, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. His spirit, kindness, and remarkable character will never be forgotten. Alex is survived by his loving parents Nicole and Dan and his younger brother Max. He is also survived by his grandparents, Carol and William Herrmann of Little Silver, NJ, and Carol and John Kemp of Ellesmere Port, UK, as well as his uncles, W. Curtis Herrmann (Meghan) of Rumson, NJ, John and James Kemp (Cheshire, UK), and his beloved godmother, Marisa Cox of Arlington, VA.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests memorial donations be made to JBJ Soul Kitchen, Red Bank, NJ, where Alex served to provide happiness and support to those in need.
