Alexander S. Ghirlanda, 49, of Hartford, CT, beloved son, father, brother, and uncle, was called home to the Lord on July 13, 2024. Born in Hartford to Maria and Romano Ghirlanda, Alex was born and grew up in the Southend of Hartford alongside his mother; his identical twin, Frank; and his older brother and sister, Romano and Romina.
Alex's heart was bigger than this world. He would go out of his way to do all he could to help his family and friends. There wasn't a person not affected by his smile and laughter. People looked forward to his jokes and stories. His proudest moment was becoming a father with Jessica, mother of his daughters, and his greatest pride were his two daughters, Samantha and Cecilia. His love for them and theirs for him could never be summed up or fully expressed with words. He adored his mother, looked up to his older brother and sister, and his connection to his twin brother was deeper than and surpassed all understanding. He loved joking and playing around with his nieces and nephews, Roman and Jazlene, Maximus and Gabriella, Alexander and Vienna, and shared many laughs with his sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Jen (Frank), Debbie (Romano), and Gary (Romina). He also leaves behind many cousins and family in Argentina and Italy, and many close friends whose lives he touched.
Everyone who knew Alex knew he was passionate about New York City, DJing, playing the piano, riding his motorcycle, local history, and Argentina. He could tell you all there was to know about NYC, as though he lived through its history, and he looked forward to the Easter Parade with his daughters every year. Every time we hear Mozart's Piano Sonata No.16 or Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata play, we will hear Alex playing; and when we hear the club remixes of the 80's, 90's, and 2000's, we will see him DJing with his headphones and turntables. He put his heart and soul into his music.
His last few years were a hard struggle which he fought as strong and as best as he could with his family's support in all ways. Although he lost the battle on earth, the real and true Alex was still deep within him. He has finally found peace and serenity. All who truly knew him and loved him know he is now at peace, showing his truest most genuine brightest smile, laughing his deep contagious boisterous laugh, adding his own touch of music to Heaven, and sending us signs to comfort us letting us know that he is finally truly happy, at peace, and at Home.
A private wake and funeral were held, and our family would like to thank with deep gratitude the Sheehan Hilborn Breen Funeral Home in West Hartford and St. Augustine Church and Father Walsh in Hartford for their support and prayers. Online condolences may be made at www.SheehanHilbornBreen.com
