Alfred G. Edmonds was born on November 10, 1942, in Norfolk, VA, and died July 10, 2025, at his home on Woodland Avenue, Norfolk, VA. He was born to the late William A Edmonds and Millie Louise Edmonds.
At an early age, he was baptized at New Calvary Baptist Church, Norfolk, VA, under the pastorate of the late Dr. Reverend Milton A. Reid. Until his passing, he was a member of Holy Temple Church of Deliverance, of Norfolk, VA, and served on the ministerial staff as a Deacon.
He graduated from Booker T. Washington High School Class of 1961. From there, he went on to graduate from Norfolk State University and obtained his first job as a teacher in Petersburg, VA. He was very involved in the Civil Rights Movement Sit-Ins in Norfolk, VA, in 1960.
He was affectionately called "Tena" as a young boy, and that name continued throughout his life. He is survived by his daughter, Tonya M. Martin, of Hampton, VA, three grandchildren, and uncle, Rudolph V. Wiggins, Ph.D., of Ashburn, VA; and aunt, Audreynell W. Kelly (Lewis) of Suffolk, VA, and several cousins.
He will be missed by Family and Friends!
