Alice King-Woody, 93, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 11, 2025, at Eastern Star Masonic Home in Boone, where she lived since 2021.

Alice will be laid to rest at a private family service on Friday, July 18, 2025.

Alice M Kirwin was born March 2, 1932, in Winona, MN to Edwin and Margaret (Goosman) Kirwin. She grew up in Winona and Ames where she received her education. Following high school, Alice was united in marriage to Marshall King and the couple lived and farmed in Boone; they were blessed with five children, Randy, Nancy, Jon, Lori, and Kathy. They later divorced, and Alice married Delmar Woody, and they lived in Newton.

During her years in Boone, Alice was active on the farm. She was also active in the community, the First United Methodist Church and her children's activities. Alice was a 4-H leader, a member of the 4-H Youth Committee, was active in Cowbelles and Farm Bureau. She was known to be an excellent cook and always had freshly baked cookies and cakes on hand. In 1976, she was honored to cook a home-cooked meal for President Gerald Ford as they hosted one of his campaign stops at their farm. Later, Alice was a school bus driver for both the Boone and Newton School Districts. She drove the bus until she was 84 years old.

Alice enjoyed music, sang in church as well as performing with the Sweet Adeline's group and sang at numerous events in the area. She was also creative and made many crafts and sewing projects and even sold some at Living History Farms in Des Moines. Most of all, Alice loved her family. She was a wonderful example of someone who follows their own path through life. She tackled the lows and enjoyed the highs. And she always continued to move forward.

Alice is survived by her children, Randy (Kathi) King, Nancy Thompson, Jon (Peg) King, Lori (Dennis) Schultz, and Kathy King; grandchildren, Nikki (Jeff) Dvorak, Lance (Samantha) King, Todd (Britney) King, Tia (Bobby) Skinner, Cody (Amber) Burns, Cari (Clint) Rothfus, Brandon King, Stacy (Hoss) Walters, Mike (Ashli) Schultz, Tanya (Matt) Hillman, and Crystal Erickson; sixteen great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild, as well as many nieces and nephews, and friends.. She was preceded in death by her husband, Delmar Woody, her first husband, Marshall King; parents, Edwin and Margaret Kirwin; sister, Shirley Bolce; brother, Milton Kirwin; son-in-law, Brad Thompson, and granddaughter-in-law, Amber King.

Alice's family wishes to thank the staff at Eastern Star and St Croix Hospice for their loving care.

Memorials may be made to St Croix Hospice or Eastern Star Home. Condolences and memories of Alice may be shared with her family in the tributes section of her memorial page.
