Alice Roberto, a longtime resident of New Rochelle, died on July 7, 2025. Alice was born on January 8, 1946, in the Bronx to the late Albert and Vincenza "Jean" (Castoro) von Hagen. Alice lived on Balcom Ave with her sister Carolyn for many years making lifelong friends, such as her best friend Carole Anne who lived next door. She kept her childhood friends close by getting together every year with Peggy, Judy, Joann, and Carol. She also kept strong lifelong bonds with school friends, Margarite, Frannie, Dolores, Betty Ann and Lanie. After graduating St. Helena High School with a degree in clerical skills, she had her first job in Heffner Insurance Agency in Manhattan. Every time she talked about her early career, she would love to tell stories of the excitement of getting dressed up and taking the train into NYC to work. Alice worked for the Heffner Agency up until the birth of her son, Christopher, when she gave up her typewriter for motherhood. On June 24, 1967, she left Balcom Ave and married her late husband, Basil Roberto. They moved to a small apartment on Hone Ave in the Morris Park section of the Bronx. There they had their only son, Christopher, in September of 1971. While raising their family, Alice again made more lifelong friends that she met while being involved with her son's grammar school, St. Francis Xavier. One dear friend, Ms. Phyllis McKenna, remained a close dear friend until the end. Alice had many happy years in the Bronx. The family moved from the Bronx to New Rochelle in the summer of 1985. Unfortunately, not long after the move, on February 17, 1988, Alice lost her loving husband. Alice was now a single mother, raising her son Christopher. All was not lost because in the same year Alice landed a job and went back to work as the secretary for the George T. Davis Funeral Home (a subsidiary of SCI, a major funeral company). She then earned the title of Office Administrator. She also held several other titles and responsibilities for 37 years within the company. Not only did she have a successful career, but she also again created long-lasting friendships. More than just her manager, Vincent Fasano, wife Laura and their girls became part of her family. Also, funeral directors Gary Andrews and Anthony Imperiale remained friends with her over the years. Alice spent many long hours and trips into Manhattan with Teri Tiberi creating a bonding friendship while making sure all the company's funeral homes in NYS registrations were up to date. Alice had many great adventures in life. She had the opportunity to enjoy Fire Island every year, creating stories and memories with sister Cookie, Carol, Paula, Maria and Joanie. Creating fun times and many stories to be told. She loved it every year. In December of 2015 at 71, Alice retired from the funeral business to enjoy life. At that time, she was able to spend more time with her grandchildren, nieces and nephews, enjoying plenty of their plays, graduations and lots of sports. Not only did she travel, she traveled the world. Going to Italy, Germany and her most prized and memorable was Israel, the Holy Land. She took these trips with her dearest friends and sister Cookie, Carole and Phyllis. In Italy and Germany, she explored her family's culture. She enjoyed the food and wine in Italy and the beer in Germany. The Holy Land was my mother's lifelong dream and most heartfelt adventure because of her faith. Alice was a devoted Catholic; she prayed every day and had a faith like no other. Her trip to the Holy Land to see and touch the same places where Jesus was born, walked and died was a testament to her faith. Alice's faith in Jesus helped her get through all the cancer treatments till there was no more. Then she put all her faith and trust in Him and God to the end. It was a tough ride but Alice, the woman she was, never gave up and said, "Jesus suffered more than me, I shouldn't complain, I can do this". And she did. God and Jesus gave her strength. Alice wanted peace with all in her life. God granted Alice that last gift, peace of having her loving family by her side in her final moments. She is survived by her son Christopher; her 3 grandchildren: Gabriella, Sofia and Michael. She is also survived by her sister Carolyn "Cookie". Her 3 nieces: Michele, Christine and Michelle, and 3 grandnephews: Nicholas, Joseph and Matthew, 3 grandnieces Alyssa, Isabella and Sophia. Visiting hours will be Thursday from 7-9 pm and Friday 2-4 pm & 7-9 pm. A funeral Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for Saturday, 9:30 am at Blessed Sacrament Church. Interment will directly follow at St. Raymonds Cemetery

I´m so sorry to hear about Alice. I have fond memories of Alice and Basil from when we were first married. One of my favorite memories is cooking a roast beef and burning it on the outside and it was raw in the center which we had to send out for Italian food. We laughed over that every time we saw each other. We had a lot of laughs in those days. Sending Chris and his family love and prayers. Your cousin Ann Esposito/ DiGennaro
