Allen Dale Gunter, 72, of Orient, Illinois passed away Sunday July 13, 2025 in SSM Good Samaritan Hospital – Mt. Vernon, Illinois at 3:33a.m.
Allen was born July 22, 1952 in Christopher, Illinois to Albert and Leona (Van Hoye) Gunter. Allen worked at Old Ben 21 coal mine and owned a guttering company for several years. He also worked for Maytag and retired from Peabody Gateway Mine. Allen enjoyed being outdoors working in his garden. He loved to go fishing and go for rides on his side by side. Allen was a member of the American Legion of Orient.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers: Dennis Gunter, Francis Gunter, and Herschel Gunter.
Allen is survived by his loving wife, Dianne Gunter; son, Marty (Vicki) Gunter of Christopher; daughter: Wendy (Dan) Alsbury of West Frankfort; step sons: Billy (Kathy) Tanner of Benton, Steve (Keri) Tanner of West Frankfort; step daughters: Becky (Gary) Murphy of West Frankfort and Nicky (Dennis) Bowers of Orient; brothers: Gary (Dori) Gunter of Christpher and Donnie Gunter of Benton; sisters: Brenda Gunter of Christopher and Linda Wink of Mulkeytown; sister-in-law, Dawn Gunter of Christopher; grandchildren; Michelle Helm, Alex Anderson, Molly Anderson (Zach Hubbard), Ashlee (Brett) Dunston, Raelynn (Jayson) Allan, Lucas Tanner, and Ali Tanner, Carly Hoffard, Tony (Andi) Bowers, and Stacey (Josh) Petro; twelve great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; special friends, Albert Carso, Betty Rice, and Kim Cochrum; special neighbor, Mason Williams.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00p.m. Thursday July 17, 2025 at Union Funeral Home – West Frankfort, Illinois. Visitation will be held from 12:00-2:00p.m. prior to the service. Burial will be in Denning Cemetery on the Orient Road.
