Altemese Fuller Smith was born in Fort Pierce, Florida, to the late Hosie and Pearl Fuller. A proud graduate of Fort Pierce Central High School, she continued her education at Florida A&M University, earning a degree in Business Administration from the School of Business and Industry. While attending her beloved FAMU, she pledged Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. – Beta Alpha Chapter, Spring 1976.

Altemese devoted 35 years of distinguished service to the State of Florida – Unemployment Compensation program. She became the first Black woman to serve as Bureau Chief, a role she held with excellence until her retirement in 2015.

Her faith guided every step of her life. She was a devoted member of First Bethel Missionary Baptist Church in Fort Pierce, FL, Greater Mt. Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church and Bethel Baptist Church in Tallahassee, FL. She later relocated to Miramar, FL to be near her youngest daughter.

Altemese was known for her deep love of God, her family, and her community. She leaves behind a legacy of leadership, grace, and unwavering devotion. On October 16, 2025, Altemese transitioned peacefully, surrounded by love.

Left to cherish her beautiful memories are her loving husband: Blaine Smith; Daughters: Eboni (DeAndre) Whitt, Carmen (David) Hilbert; Grandsons: Dawson and Duran Whitt, and David Hilbert, Jr.; sister: Corine (Robert) Jones; Godchildren: LaKenya Davis, Bishop Antonio Wimberly, Joel Burney, and Amber-Christina Wimberly; nieces, nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.
